La Presa Restaurant will likely close its doors for two weeks and pay fines resulting from village code violations the business owners chose not to argue against in a hearing Wednesday at village hall. Details are still being finalized, according to Paul Augustyn, attorney for La Presa, but the business did concede for the official village record that [La Presa] agrees with the allegations ‘in principle’ regarding disposition in this matter. “If we would have gone forward, the village would have met its burden of proof, so instead we decided to agree to a two-week suspension and pay fines relating to village attorney fees,” Augustyn said. The Village of Palatine alleges that illegal activities have occurred on the premises of the restaurant located at 319 S. Rohwling Road.
A formal hearing will be held this afternoon to determine if La Presa Restaurant, 319 S. Rohlwing Road, will keep its business license, or suffer sanctions and/or penalties. A hearing had been scheduled for Wednesday, January 30 for the business to go before the village regarding charges of alleged drug sales on the restaurant premises, and for the lack of proper BASSET certifications for employees who serve alcohol at the establishment. La Presa asked for a hearing continuance, which was rescheduled for today at village hall. Village Manager Reid Ottesen, who will preside over the hearing, could decide to lodge penalties or sanctions against La Presa, or to revoke the business license altogether. A hearing will be held Friday, February 8 regarding the alleged sale of drugs on the premises and failure of employees serving alcohol to have proper certifications at Restaurant La Presa.
UPDATED: Tuesday, January 29 at 3:40 p.m. The Village of Palatine announced that lawyers for Restaurant La Presa have asked for a continuance in the hearing to decided whether or not the business will lose its license, or if penalties or sanctions will be imposed.
