Palatine Bows Out of State Playoffs

The Pirates lose to the Loyola Ramblers 19-7.

Palatine came up just a bit short in their hopes to qualify for the Class 8A semifinals, losing to Loyola 19-7 Saturday in Wilmette. “We just didn’t execute,” Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly said. “Give them credit.” Palatine (10-2) was just moments away from receiving the opening kickoff when the lightening detector sounded, delaying kickoff for nearly 90 minutes. Then, when played resumed, on the Pirates first play from scrimmage, Loyola deflected a pass and intercepted the ball at the Palatine 23-yard line. The Palatine defense, led by Jesse Bobbit, Cam Kuska, Thomas McHugh, Dan Riddle, John Serio, Luke Rago and Josh Baldus, came up big, limiting the Ramblers to just a field goal. Palatine Crushes Schaumburg 42-14

The Pirates advance to state quarterfinals to play away at Loyola Saturday, November 10.

Palatine continued its march in the state playoffs Saturday, ripping conference-rival Schaumburg 42-14 in the second round of the Class 8A playoffs, while on their home turf at Palatine High School.  “We had great field position in the first half and that helped,” Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly said. “And I thought our defense played well again for us.” Palatine (10-1), won its 10th game of the season for the first time since 1997 by taking advantage of five Schaumburg turnovers, to beat the Saxons for the second time in the last three weeks. “I am so glad we are playing someone new,” said Donnelly, whose team ripped Schaumburg 51-18 in the last game of the regular season to win the Mid Suburban West title. “I can’t stand it.
