The village of Palatine will consider adding new activities to better engage young people ages 16-20 during Palatine Street Fest 2013.
In addition to approving the many details to allow planning for Palatine Street Fest 2013 to move forward, the Village of Palatine will consider the possibility of adding new activities and entertainment for attendees 16 to 20 years of age for this year's event. According to a village memo on the proposition, this age group tends to ‘congregate’ on the west side of the Street Fest parameters, and ideas on how to provide more events aimed at drawing them in have been explored over the last several years. The new features could include live bands and local entertainment during the day, and a DJ and dance music…

Village dogs – all kinds of them – march through downtown.
More than 75 dogs in every conceivable shape, size and variety marched through downtown Palatine Sunday during the Sweet Pea Pet Parade as part of the Street Fest activities. Led by a Palatine Police golf cart, the parade gave owners a chance to show off their animals, including, a Great Dane, twin chocolate Labradors, a Great Pyrenees, an English Bulldog and a Pit Bull dressed in a tutu. One owner even …

For most, the 10 or 20-mile two-wheeled jaunt around Palatine was a chance to grab some physical fitness on a quiet weekend morning. But for Melder it was another session of physical therapy, six years after a stroke impaire the left side of her body. “I always loved to bike,” she said, “and after I had my stroke, to be able to bike again was amazing.” Melder credited her ability to ride following the stroke to a custom designed, German made recumbent bicycle. Estimated to cost about $4,500 fully outfitted, the grey colored bike is designed so the rider sits …
