Palatine Looks to Change Up Street Fest for Young People

The village of Palatine will consider adding new activities to better engage young people ages 16-20 during Palatine Street Fest 2013.

How about a dance-off or kareoke? Or daytime activities like wheelbarrow, potato sack races, bags, etc. Kids should pre-register as a team and possibly even pay a small fee to enter. As far as music goes, probably just a DJ...or maybe a battle-of-the-bands.   more ›

Paws On Parade In Palatine

Village dogs – all kinds of them – march through downtown.

More than 75 dogs in every conceivable shape, size and variety marched through downtown Palatine Sunday during the Sweet Pea Pet Parade as part of the Street Fest activities. Led by a Palatine Police golf cart, the parade gave owners a chance to show off their animals, including, a Great Dane, twin chocolate Labradors, a Great Pyrenees, an English Bulldog and a Pit Bull dressed in a tutu. Alissa DePue, owner of the Pit Bull, who answers to the name of Stella Luna, said she dressed the pup in a tutu so people could see that all Pit Bulls are not mean. “She is dainty,” DePue said. “She is everything that is anti-Pit Bull.” Apparently in a move to spruce up their pets, many owners dressed their dogs in colorful bandannas. Stroke victim navigates Cycle Fest on special bicycle

Linda Melder and her friend, Kathleen Reisler were among the first riders to sign up Saturday morning for CycleFest – one of the featured events at the Palatine Downtown Street Fest. Estimated to cost about $4,500 fully outfitted, the grey colored bike is designed so the rider sits …
