Visitors of the Palatine Public Library District are discovering a new time-saving option for checking out library materials. Introduced in December 2012, and recently expanded, Express Checkout is fast becoming a popular, time-saving, and convenient option for patrons on the go. There are two Express Checkout stations on the first floor of the Main Library (near the central staircase), another station on the second floor near the Reference Desk, and one in the Children’s Department. Staff is finding that children are especially enjoying the fun of checking out their own books and learning something new. The renovations will include the addition of digital media labs, which will be equipped with iMac computers, cameras and microphones, and the consolidation of the children's collections to one floor, according to the Tribune. This will be the first renovation at the library, located at 700 N. North Court, since it opened in 1993, according to the article. The Palatine Library Districtserves over 90,000 patrons residing primarily in Palatine and north Hoffman Estates, according to the library's website.

To teach teens how to identify, respond to and prevent bulling, the Palatine Public Library hosts Verbal Martial Arts: Anti-bullying. On Wednesday Sept. 12 a certified verbal defense and influence instructor from the U.S. Elite Martial Arts and Fitness Center in Arlington Heights will teach the students and parents practical strategies on how to deal with bullies.
