Save time with a newer option to express checkout your library materials.
Visitors of the Palatine Public Library District are discovering a new time-saving option for checking out library materials. Introduced in December 2012, and recently expanded, Express Checkout is fast becoming a popular, time-saving, and convenient option for patrons on the go. There are two Express Checkout stations on the first floor of the Main Library (near the central staircase), another station on the second floor near the Reference Desk, and one in the Children’s Department. Staff is finding that children are especially enjoying the fun of checking out their own books and learning something new. The main branch of Palatine Public Library will soon undergo $900,000 in renovations with construction slated to start later this month, The Chicago Tribune reports. The renovations will include the addition of digital media labs, which will be equipped with iMac computers, cameras and microphones, and the consolidation of the children's collections to one floor, according to the Tribune. This will be the first renovation at the library, located at 700 N. North Court, since it opened in 1993, according to the article. The Palatine Library Districtserves over 90,000 patrons residing primarily in Palatine and north Hoffman Estates, according to the library's website.

The Friends of the Palatine Public Library will hold a Holiday Used Book Sale from Friday, November 16 through Sunday, November 18, 2012. All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Palatine Public Library District. The selection of materials includes books, several hundred DVDs, and CDs donated by the community and available at a deep discount. The used book sales are always a popular event at the Palatine Library; some people come from other states to check out the great selection and pricing that the sale offers. Verbal Martial Arts: Anti-Bullying will be taught at the Palatine Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
To teach teens how to identify, respond to and prevent bulling, the Palatine Public Library hosts Verbal Martial Arts: Anti-bullying. On Wednesday Sept. 12 a certified verbal defense and influence instructor from the U.S. Elite Martial Arts and Fitness Center in Arlington Heights will teach the students and parents practical strategies on how to deal with bullies. The class, available to kids in 6th grade and up and their parents will be held at the main library at 200 N. North Court in Story Room ABC at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 12. Click here to register.

To celebrate the new Branch, the Library invites all North Hoffman Estates district residents to drop in and rediscover their neighborhood library beginning Monday, December 5 through Saturday, December 10, 2011. Some fun give-aways and contests for all District cardholders are planned for the whole week. Adults who check out materials will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win an eReader. The North Hoffman Branch is located in the Willow Recreation Center at 3600 Lexington Drive, Hoffman Estates.
