Burglary to Motor Vehicle A victim reported sometime between Nov. 23 at 11 p.m. and Nov. 24 at 9:45 a.m., their 1999 Jeep Cherokee was broken into in the 300 block of Westminster Dr. Taken was a Chase credit card of unknown value, a Motorolla cell phone valued at $200. The victim told police the vehicle was locked and there were no signs of forced entry. Car Burglary and Criminal Damage A victim reported his white 2011 Dodge pickup was damaged burglarized while parked at the Holiday Inn Express, 1550 E. Dundee Rd. sometime between Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 7:30 a.m. The rear driver's side window was shattered, and taken was a black leather case that contained a fiber optic test meter, valued at $30,000. A victim reported his silver 2001 Buick Sedan was damaged and burglarized sometime between Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. while it was parked in a lot in the 400 block of E. Osage Ln. "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click it or Ticket" campaigns will be implemented now through November 25. Saturation patrols will be out on the roads to look for impaired drivers, speeders and those not adhering to safety restraint laws.
The Palatine Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to increase safety on the streets through the Thanksgiving holiday period. Now through November 25, residents should expect to see more uniformed officers on the streets to keep the roadways as safe as possible. Statistics police point to show that between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., the most serious traffic accidents, which involve driving under the influence, speeding and failure to buckle up, are documented historically. The increased patrols are funded by grants from IDOT. In addition to an increased presence, Safety Belt Enforcement Zones throughout the village will also be held. Burglary to Motor Vehicle Two vehicles were burglarized in the 200 block of W. Fairfield Ct. in the driveways of two townhomes sometime between Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 4 a.m. A wallet, checkbook and U.S. currency was taken from a 2007 Ford parked at one townhome. A backback, phone charger and an adaptor were taken from a nearby 2007 Volkswagen parked in another driveway. Shortly after the incident, Winnetka Police contacted Palatine Police to report that identifying materials taken from the Ford were on the person of Daniel B. Vences, 21, of the 800 block of Old Willow Rd., Prospect Hieghts. Vences was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle and theft. Theft A victim reported that on Monday, October 15 between 2 p.m and 2:10 p.m., she left her purse in a shopping cart and drove away from Jewel, 45 S. Plum Grove Rd. When the victim realized she had left her purse, she went back to the grocery store and discovered her purse, and its contents, was gone. In addition to the purse, valued at $10, various credit cards, $500 in cash, the victim's drivers license and social security all were taken. Motorcycle crash near N. Quentin and W. Dundee roads sends one to hospital Friday.
Headed east on Dundee Road, a motorcycle rider was blinded by leaves blowing off of a landscape truck, said one witness. “I was coming the other direction,” Merrily Williams said, “I could tell he couldn’t see and then he just went down.” The rider laid the bike down in the eastbound lane of Dundee Road, near Pendelton Court around 12:30 p.m. Friday. “My immediate reaction was just to pull over and help,” said Williams, “I just wanted to stay with him until someone came.” Williams kept the motorcyclist talking until paramedics arrived. “He was wearing a helmet so he was okay,” Williams said, “I think he just broke his ankle.” Placed in a neck brace, the man was loaded into an ambulance and transported to the hospital. “The truck didn’t …

PHS and two neighboring schools went into a soft lockdown Wednesday after a group of juveniles were thought to have a handgun near campus. It turned out it was a CO2-powered pellet gun, and four juveniles, three PHS students, were taken into custody.
Early on in the two-hour soft lockdown at PHS and two neighboring elementary schools Wednesday, parents were searching for information after receiving texts from their children. One parent emailed Palatine Patch, “At 11:30 a.m. my daughter started texting me at work asking what is going on in Palatine, the school is on lock down? As of 12:30 they were still on lock down and were not being told why.” Both Virginia Lake and Jane Addams elementary schools also were put on a soft lockdown as a precaution. Two-vehicle accident shut down section of Dundee Road, just west of the intersection at Hicks and Dundee Roads Monday.
Emergency responders were called to a two-vehicle injury accident just west of the intersection at Dundee and Hicks Roads around 5 p.m. Monday. A silver sedan, headed east on Dundee Road, collided into the front passenger side of a light blue minivan. Attempting to make a left turn out of a parking lot on the 300 block of E. Dundee Road, the light blue mini blue van was struck in the in the near the center line. According to emergency responders, both drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the minivan, an adolescent girl was uninjured and it’s unclear if there were any passengers inside the silver sedan at the time of the crash.
