Suspect Pulls Gun on Employees, Customers at Palatine Verizon Store

Palatine Police say two suspects entered the store at 784 E. Dundee Road on Saturday, and one suspect pulled a gun. Taken was U.S. currency, phones, tablets and iPads. Suspect descriptions are provided.

Palatine Police are searching for two suspects they believe are responsible for an armed robbery over the weekend where a gun was pulled on empolyees and customers at the Verizon Wireless Store, 784 E. Dundee Road.  The robbery took place on Saturday, May 18 at approximately 6:15 p.m., according to a press release from the Palatine Police Department. A 9-1-1 call was placed by an employee, but when officers arrived, the two suspects had already fled the store.  Employees told police the two suspects entered the store asking about phones, but then the first suspect pulled out a gun and ordered three employees and four customers to get to the ground, the release stated.  Meanwhile the second suspect told the manager to open the inventory …

Conceal and carry won't do much but assist in getting more guns on the street. Criminals will reuse the gun off anyone they hurt or worse who carry. A good person with a gun can be mistakenly seen as a bad guy by police and accidently shot if there is a gun fight between criminals and civilians.   more ›

Home Burglarized on Claremont Drive A home was burglarized May 2 between 7:15 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Claremont Drive. Someone entered the home through a lower level window and removed a bottle of whiskey and a jewelry box containing jewelry, including a watch valued at $150. Rock Thrown at Van Someone threw a rock at a 2001 Chevy van near the intersection of Baldwin and Dundee Roads on May 1 sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light. Wyndham Club Condo Office Burglarzied Someone entered the Wyndham Club Condo Office located in the 1200 block of Wyndham Court between May 2 at 5:15 p.m. and May 3 at 6:15 a.m. A toolbag containing tools and valued at $210 was taken. Police: Palatine Youth Fired Shots at Group of Teenagers

A 17-year-old male from Palatine faces criminal charges for shooting at a group of teenagers after being identified in a police lineup.

A 17-year-old Palatine boy faces criminal charges after shooting at a group of teenagers in a parking lot 1300 block of North Ports O'Call Drive, according to a press release from the Palatine Police Department.  Police say the boy shouted gang slogans at the three teenagers, ages 16, 17 and 18, and fired two shots at about 9:10 p.m. April 26. The teenagers, according to the release, were in the parking lot when the offender shot in their direction. They reportedly knew the offender relating to a previous dispute over an iPhone.  No one was injured in the incident and the 17-year-old faces several charges including unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault. Palatine Police Blotter: Smart Phone Taken from Police Department Lobby

Truck Scratched A 2000 Chevrolet truck was scratched in the 1700 block of N. Laurel Drive sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. April 14. Window Shattered Someone shattered the rear windshield of a 2008 Honda coupe in the 900 block of E. Lily Lane sometime between 11:30 p.m. April 12 and 10 a.m. April 13. ID, Keys Stolen A person reported that someone stole their ID cards and keys from the common area of Buehler YMCA, 1400 W. Northwest Highway. The incidnet happened sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. April 14. Smart Phone Taken John S. Report: Palatine Couple Found Dead in Apparent Double-Suicide

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the deaths of a Palatine couple were an apparent double-suicide.

A Palatine couple in their 70s who were found in their garage apparently died in a double-suicide, the Chicago Tribune is reporting. The couple were found in the 600 block of Stuart Lane at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday by their daughter, the newspaper reported. Palatine police told the Tribune it appeared that the couple died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Report: Palatine Woman's Death Ruled An Accident

The medical examiner has classified the death of a Palatine woman who was hit by a car backing out of a driveway as an accident.

A Palatine woman who died after being hit by a car backing out of a driveway was the victim of an accident according to the Cook County medical examiner, the Daily Herald reported. Jieru Chen, 77, died after being hit around noon Wednesday in the 400 block of N. Hicks near Northwest Highway. Chen was walking with her husband at the time, who was also hit by the vehicle, which was backing out of a private driveway. Police stated that Chen apparently hit her head on the pavement in the fall. She was ultimately airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital where she died from injuries on Thursday, Feb. 14. Police stated that a 42-year-old woman was driving the vehicle. The woman told police that she was backing out slowly eastbound from an apartment…

Palatine Police Blotter: Storage Locker Busted, Return Scam

The latest edition of the Palatine Police Blotter.  Retail Theft On Dec. 22, a return scam was committed at Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd. at 12:45 p.m. Armando L. Gonzalez, 33, of the 300 block of Alyssa Ln., Plano, took a printer cartridge, valued at $67, off the shelf, concealed it in his coat and entered the bathroom. Gonzalez came out of the restroom with the cartridge in a plastic bag and attempted to return the item at customer service. He was charged with retail theft.  Theft From Storage Locker Sometime between Dec. 2-Dec. 24.  at 5:28 p.m., a victim reported their storage locker in the 1200 block of N. Did I just read this right? The burglars also stole two garbage bags of Tupperware? It’s in the afternoon, surely they were able to see the things they were stealing from a storage locker. I am guessing that they either stole from the wrong storage unit (with barely any goods, so they became desperate) or they saw some value in old Tupperware. Palatine School Bus Crash Sends Four to Hospital

A school bus vs. pick-up truck accident occurred in Palatine late Tuesday and sent three middle school students and the pick-up driver to the hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

UPDATED: Wednesday, Dec. 19 7:30 a.m.  A District 15 bus was involved in an accident late Tuesday afternoon, sending three children to the hospital, according to a release from the Palatine Fire Department. According to a message posted on the school's website, Winston Campus Junior High Activity Bus #WC929 was involved in the accident.  The accident occurred at the intersection of North Frontage Road and Bayside Drive, according to the fire department, and involved the bus containing 25 children and the bus driver, and a male behind the wheel of a pick-up truck. Burglary to Motor Vehicle A victim reported their 2000 Dodge van was burlarized in the 1300 block of Shadow Lake Terr. sometime between Nov. 28 at 10 p.m. and November 29 at 6 a.m. An unknown offender(s) pried off the exterior trim piece on the dashboard and removed a tv/radio, in addition to 10 DVD's and two bank debit cards. The car was reportedly left unlocked.  A victim reported their silver Mazda SUV was burglarized in the 400 block of Diane Dr. on Nov. 29 between 6 p.m and 10:06 p.m. The unknown offender(s) took a purse that was sitting on the front passenger seat. UPDATE: Man Dies After Fall at Sunnyside Corp in Wheeling

Rescue crews spent hours in Wheeling Thursday attempting to rescue or recover a member of the cleaning crew who fell into a tank.

UPDATED: Wheeling Fire Chief Keith MacIsaac has confirmed that the man who fell into a tank earlier today at Sunnyside Corporation, has died, according to the Daily Herald.  The man, whose identity has not been made public, was hired to clean the tank, the Daily Herald reports. The case has now been turned over to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).  EARLIER: Firefighters and police from Palatine, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove and a number of area departments are on the scene of an attempted rescue in Wheeling.
