Future Uncertain for Palatine Library's Freeman Road Branch

Hoffman Estates branch should remain open through August as library officials talk with bank.

The future of Palatine Library’s Freeman Road Branch in Hoffman Estates is uncertain after the building that houses the branch went into foreclosure. The branch, located at 1262 N. Freeman Road, should remain open at least until Aug. 31, which is when the library’s lease on the building expires. After that, no one knows what will happen. “We’re just waiting to see where things go from here,” library Director Susan Strunk said. The building went into foreclosure July 11, and Palatine Public Library officials were informed two days later. Strunk received news of the foreclosure via e-mail just a few hours before the library board of trustees was to vote on renewing the Freeman Road Branch’s lease. “It was pretty surprising,” Strunk said. …

Golf Nation Fundraiser To Benefit Palatine Woman With Blood Disease

Library worker Patti Pantelis received transplant in May to treat blood disease that could lead to leukemia

Golf Nation, 399 N. Quentin Rd., will host a fundraiser Sunday, July 24, to help defray the medical expenses of Palatine resident Patti Pantelis, who had a bone marrow transplant in May. The fundraiser at the golf and fitness center will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is $50 a person. “We’re hoping to have a lot of people show up and have fun,” said Pantelis’ husband, Tom. Many village residents would recognize Patti Pantelis from the Palatine Public Library, where she worked prior to her illness at the information desk. She was often the first person to greet library patrons when they entered the lobby. Shortly after Thanksgiving last year, when Mrs. Pantelis complained of feeling run-down, she was diagnosed with the blood disease …

Palatine Library Installing Heated Sidewalk

The Palatine Library is installing a heated sidewalk to make sure patrons have good footing in the winter.

Books, movies and research materials are just a few of the things the Palatine Public Library has to offer. And now their main building at 700 N. North Court now has something else to offer: heated sidewalks. The Library Board of Trustees approved in early Spring a replacement of the existing brick paver sidewalk for a concrete sidewalk that will have a snow melt system built into it. Construction, which includes new lighting and landscaping, will cost just under $350,000 and began in late June. It is expected to be completed in August. “We want our visitors to have a good experience,” Library Director Susan Strunk said. “We wanted to make it comfortable to come in with a level and safe surface with plenty of light.” The current sidewalk, …

Speaking of the dangerous parking situation at the Palatine Libarary (GWB)... Now that the East side is blocked we are forced to walk in the street WITH the as usual speeding carz. Would it be so hard to put some orange cones to "Simulate" a sidewalk before somebody gets hurt? Do we have a NAME of someone that we can attach to the basic DESIGN of this mess? A building you can see but can only …   more ›
