The Pirates lose to the Loyola Ramblers 19-7.
Palatine came up just a bit short in their hopes to qualify for the Class 8A semifinals, losing to Loyola 19-7 Saturday in Wilmette. “We just didn’t execute,” Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly said. “Give them credit.” Palatine (10-2) was just moments away from receiving the opening kickoff when the lightening detector sounded, delaying kickoff for nearly 90 minutes. Then, when played resumed, on the Pirates first play from scrimmage, Loyola deflected a pass and intercepted the ball at the Palatine 23-yard line. The Palatine defense, led by Jesse Bobbit, Cam Kuska, Thomas McHugh, Dan Riddle, John Serio, Luke Rago and Josh Baldus, came up big, limiting the Ramblers to just a field goal. The third-seeded Pirates battled, and won their spot into the second-round of the Class 8A playoffs with a victory against the Niles West Wolves at Chic Anderson Stadium.
The slow start to the first round playoff game against the Niles West Wolves was not ideal for Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly. With the score 7-7 and two turnovers for the Wolves in the first quarter, the Pirates responded by starting the second quarter with four unanswered touchdowns. The next time the Wolves scored was at 1:42 in the second quarter making it 35-14, but it was too late for them to try and close the gap before the end of the half. Right out of the gate, Pirates linebacker Lucas Rago caught an interception at 10:50 in the third, which led the way for Pirate Cam Kuksa to run a touchdown from two yards out, giving him his third touchdown of the game. The Pirates continued to widen the score with quarterback Ethan Olles …
