Palatine Condo Fire: Four Residents Displaced, No Injuries

The blaze was reported at 8:21 p.m. Friday with heavy fire on the first floor extending to the second floor; three units were ultimately deemed uninhabitable after multiple fire agencies helped to extinguish it.

Palatine firefighters responded to a blaze at the Lake Louise Condominiums, 516 N. Wilke Rd. Friday night, and four of its residents were unable to go back to their units after it was extinguished.  No injuries to civilians or firefighters were sustained. The call came in at 8:21 p.m., and by 8:27 p.m., Palatine firefighters were on the scene where heavy fire had been reported on the first floor, and had extended to the second floor and into the attic above, according to a Palatine Fire Department press release. The release states firefighters had to access the roof with an aerial tower to cut a ventilation hole, to release heat, gas and smoke.  Firefighters searched all of the units, and meanwhile called for a Box Alarm through the Mutual…

UPDATED: Fire Breaks Out at Palatine Apartment Building Friday

More than a dozen emergency vehicles are on the scene at 516 N. Wilke; both floors reportedly were ablaze, and a hook and ladder was used to reach the second floor of the apartment building.

UPDATED: Friday, May 17, 10:45 p.m. No injuries are being reported after a fire broke out at the Lake Louise Apartment, 516 N. Wilke Rd. on Friday night.  Just after 8:30 p.m. the Palatine Fire Department called a box alarm to receive aid from neighboring departments, after fire was reported to be heavy at the front door of the building, according to the Arlington Cardinal.  Fire was reported in one first floor apartment in addition to a second floor apartment, and everyone, including pets in the complex, were evacuated safely, the Arington Cardinal reports.  EARLIER: Details are still forthcoming, but more than a dozen emergency vehicles are currently on the scene at an apartment fire on the east edge of Palatine, where both floors of the…

Firefighters Battle Fire on Palatine Road

The Palatine Fire Department was battling a structure fire in the 450 W. Palatine Road.

UPDATED 9:58 p.m. April 15 A 13-year-old girl was injured in a Monday fire in an apartment building at 450 W. Palatine Road. The Palatine Fire Department responded to the second floor fire at about 5:09 p.m., a press release states. "As one fire crew worked to extinguish the fire, another crew searched the two bedroom apartment and found a conscious, 13-year-old female trapped in a bathroom behind a closed door," the press release states. The girl was carried from the building and take to Northwest Community Hospital. Firefighters had the fire under control within 20 minutes and it was contained to a single apartment, the press release stated. The apartment was heavily damaged and deemed uninhabitable. Inverness Fire Leaves Home Uninhabitable, Three Pets Killed

A passerby reported seeing smoke at the two-story home at 124 Poteet Avenue in Inverness. The owner was not home at the time of the fire, but three cats died before being reached by firefighters.

Palatine Rural Fire Department responded to a house fire in Inverness late morning Wednesday that left the home uninhabitable.  Captain Ed McGarry said a passerby reported seeing smoke coming from the windows of the two-story home at 124 Poteet Avenue at 11:27 a.m. The fire, which was extinguished by 11:45 a.m. is believed to have orginated in the kitchen.  "Most of the contents of the home were damaged by water, smoke and fire, but we were able to confine it to the first floor," McGarry said.  Since the area is unhydranted, McGarry said, additional assistance was requested and received from Palatine Fire Deparment, and engines from Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows, Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Hoffman Estates and Barrington fire …

Palatine: Man Rolls Car at 1 Renaissance Place Sunday Night

The driver was the sole occupant of the SUV he was driving, and was charged with DUI.

A driver who rolled his vehicle Sunday night at 1 Renaissance Place in Palatine was charged with Driving Under the Influence, according Kurt Schroeder, commander with the Palatine Police Department.  Ralph Zamback, 53, of the 0-100 block of Renaissance Place was uninjured in the one-car accident that occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Zamback was driving a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner at the time of the accident, which he rolled onto a snow embankment, said Bill Gabrenya, deputy chief with the Palatine Fire Department. Schroeder said when police and fire arrived at the scene, Zamback had already exited the vehicle, which landed on the driver's side. Palatine Condo Fire Causes $200,000 in Damage

The fire occurred early this morning in the 200 block of Jennifer Lane on the second floor. No people were injured, but a cat succumbed to smoke.

The Palatine Fire Department responded to an early morning fire in the 200 block of Jennifer Lane that caused $200,000 in damage to the six-unit condominium building.  The call came in on Monday at 12:32 a.m. A resident at 259 Jennifer Lane reported discovering a fire in his bedroom closet, according to a press release from the Palatine Fire Department.  By the time firefighters arrived at 12:36 a.m., fire was coming out of the second floor rear windows and extended to the roof, the release stated. Palatine Village Officials: Firefighters for a Day

Palatine and Rolling Meadows fire departments and the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District held a training exercise, allowing Palatine village staff and councilmen to suit up in firefighter gear and experience day-to-day fire-rescue operations.

The Palatine Fire Department, along with Rolling Meadows and the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District hosted a Fire Ops 101 training exercise Friday, March 8 that allowed Palatine village leaders to experience first hand what it takes to be a firefighter. The exercise, held at the now vacant Camelot Care property at 1502 W. Northwest Highway, was designed to provide the most information possible to the village for when decisions need to be made regarding the fire department.   The buildings on the property were donated by the Palatine Park District for ongoing fire fighting training over the next month.  “This allows us all to have a more educated conversation when decisions need to made in regards to station location, response times, …

The fire started in the basement of the home on Windsor Lane in Inverness. The residents were able to get out safely and no one was injured.

An Inverness home has a half a million dollars in damage after a basement fire occurred late last week. The Palatine Rural Fire Protection District responded to the call Thursday from residents who live on Windsor Lane in Inverness, which came in at 4:51 p.m., according to a press release from the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District. The residents of the two-story single family home came back to find the house filling with smoke from the basement. When emergency crews arrived there was no visible evidence of fire from the outside. Along with the rural fire protection district, Palatine Engine 84 entered and found heavy smoke and heat in the basement, along with a smoldering fire that officials believe had flashed prior to arrival of …

Dozens Remember Fallen Palatine Firefighters at Memorial Saturday

Volunteer firefighters John Wilson, 40, Warren Ahlgrim, 32, and Richard Freeman, 25, all died of smoke inhalation while battling a blaze at Palatine's downtown Ben Franklin store in 1973.

Dozens of current and retired area firefighters gathered Saturday at the Palatine Firefighters Memorial to remember three firefighters who lost their lives battling a blaze at a Ben Franklin store in downtown Palatine on Feb. 23, 1973, according to local media reports.  Around 200 people showed up to the memorial event Saturday, according to the Daily Herald.  The fire at the Ben Franklin store — located on the west side of Brockway Street just north of Slade Street — broke out in the early morning hours of Friday, February 23, 1973 and quickly spread throughout the building.
