Palatine Native Still Needs Your Vote

Steve Herbst was paralyzed after a tragic accident occurred while he was playing football for Palatine High School in 1980. Now he is in the running to win a mobility van to help with his needs, and he needs the Palatine community to help him win.

While attending Palatine High School in 1980, lifelong Palatine resident Steve Herbst suffered a catastrophic injury which severed his spinal cord, causing him to become a quadriplegic before he even graduated high school.  Since the middle of March 2013, Herbst has been in the running to win a new mobility van in a contest sponsored by the National Mobility Equipment Dealer's Assocation (NMEDA). And he needs your help every day for the next 15 days to get there.  Herbst is currently within the top 10 percent of vote getters out of more than 1,100 people who have entered the contest. Steve Herbst, a lifelong Palatine resident, has a truly inspirational story. In 1980 as he was playing football for Palatine High School, he was tackled and suffered a devastating injury. His spinal cord was severed, causing him to become a quadriplegic. But that fateful incident has not stopped Herbst from living a full life. He ended up graduating in the top 10 percent of his Palatine High School class, graduated with honors from the University of Illinois, and is now a manager of technology for Allstate Insurance. He also is married to his wife Sue, and the couple have a twin boy and girl, Jack and Grace. Herbst has always persevered in reaching his goals in life, but now he needs the Palatine community and beyond to rally behind him. …
