The Desai family had power restored about noon Thursday, ending a difficult few days for their daughter, who is dependent on a feeding pump. Reva Desai, 4, and her mother, Palak, resorted to charging the feeding pump at Norma’s Coffee Corner, 189 W. Northwest Highway, on Wednesday morning after losing power Monday. The family has lived in the Palatine Commons subdivision for about 18 months. The family’s story, which appeared Wednesday on Patch, generated several offers of help – such as paying for a hotel room for the family – from members of the Palatine community. “I really appreciate it,” Palak Desai said. “I can’t even tell you how difficult it’s been.” Reva Desai has serious digestion issues. UPDATE: Power Restored For Little Girl on Feeding Pump The ongoing power outage from Monday's storm has become a matter of survival for 4-year-old Palatine resident Reva Desai. Reva was born with serious digestion issues that force her to be fed by a pump connected directly to her stomach. After two full days without power, the battery ran low. "It's about survival," said her 35-year-old mother, Palak. "It's about getting her needs met." On Wednesday morning Palak and Reva were at Norma's Coffee Corner, 189 W. Northwest Highway. Two days after a powerful summer storm whipped through the area, nearby Lake County has declared a state of emergency. The Monday storm caused widespread damage and extensive power outages. To assist with the response efforts, Lake County Board Chairman David Stolman proclaimed a "State of Emergency" in Lake County. Palatine is located in Cook County, but borders Lake County. The declaration by Lake County facilitates the sharing of resources and supports Lake County's request to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency for assistance with debris removal. While it isn't clear that any state or federal disaster assistance will become available, Lake County Emergency Management is compiling initial damage and cost assessments from communitie…

Hey Brian, Real nice that their power is back on -- but are we now supposed to go on our merry ways thinking all is fine for this family? Sounds like they need a lot more than just electricity!
