Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) and Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Springfield) made their first joint public appearance in Illinois since Kirk returned to full time duty in the Senate in January at a Great Lakes charter school they helped create which is now being hurt by the Sequester. Durbin, Kirk and Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) met with students at the Learn Public Charter School, a North Chicago public school on the Great Lakes Naval Base, to see the new institution and listen to the students. “This is our first public appearance in Illinois since Sen. Mark Kirk and the president shared a moment as Obama entered the House Floor for the State of the Union address.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) had a close personal encounter with President Barack Obama as the President walked down the aisle of the House of Representatives on his way to the podium deliver the State of the Union, according to a report on UPI. Kirk, who returned to the Senate in January after spending nearly a year recovering from a stroke, fist bumped the President before the two embraced as seen on the You Tube video. Highland Park senator comes back to work just under a year after suffering a stroke.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) returned to work today as he climbed 237 steps to the entrance of the Senate side of the United States Capitol just under a year after suffering a major stroke. Assisted by Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Kirk walked slowly using a cane completing the ascent 10 minutes before the Vice President was scheduled to gavel the Senate into session for the 113th Congress. Senator walks on his own and talks regularly to staff.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) released a video today showing himself walking without a cane or harness, working in his Highland Park home and giving an update on his health and progress since his stroke in January. When Kirk was first released from inpatient treatment at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in May, he stayed with family members. Now he is living and working in his own residence. Senator releases video thanking citizens and showing his rehab effort.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) released a video Tuesday thanking the citizens of Illinois in his own voice for their support during his rehabilitation from a stroke suffered Jan. 21 and three resulting surgeries. Kirk left the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Friday to continue his recovery from the stroke at the home of family members. Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk is headed to the home of a family member today (May 3) to continue his recovery from a stroke he suffered more than three months ago, according to a statement by his family as reported by the website Politico.com. According to Politico, the family's statement read, “We are happy to say that after suffering a stroke in January, Mark has progressed to the point where he can move home with his family. Colleagues see an autumn return as a real possibility.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) is expected to return to work in Washington by fall, according to a statement made by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in Politico. “I’m very optimistic that he’ll be back this fall,” Graham said in the Politico story. According to the Politico article, Kirk has turned his quarters at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago into a branch office communicating with colleagues, members of his staff and others to make his voice heard. Family thanks everyone who has been supportive.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park), who suffered a stroke Saturday, remains in serious condition today at Northwestern Memorial Hospital despite making progress, according to Dr. Richard Fessler, the neurosurgeon who is treating him. “Senator Kirk is progressing as expected and we continue to be hopeful about his long term prognosis,” Fessler said. “He remains in serious condition and is being monitored closely.” As of Tuesday, Fessler reported Kirk began breathing on his own.
