The Palatine Village Council granted staff the power to institute temporary parking restrictions near Mariano's Fresh Market.
Mariano's Fresh Market, 545 N. Hicks Road, opened to much fanfare in January. Some of the activity from the grocery store has generated a few complaints from nearby residents concerned about parking, Palatine Deputy Village Manager Mike Jacobs said. "Initially there were some complaints from neighbors," Jacobs said. "There was more parking on Baldwin then there had been in the past." Jacobs said that Mariano's has been responsive to the concerns. "That first week or two they had more vendors and people coming who normally wouldn't be there," Jacobs said. "They had more corporate people coming and it was just kind of the perfect storm." Jacobs said the parking issue has gotten better in the last couple of weeks. Mariano's has 297 parking …

Despite a sometimes heated debate, the village council approved plans for a Mariano's Fresh Market at 537 N. Hicks Road.
The Palatine Village Council approved plans for a Mariano's Fresh Market, but not before District 1 Council member Aaron Del Mar voiced strong opposition. The 70,000 square foot grocery store is part of the village's redevelopment of 537 N. Hicks Rd. Palatine's new police station already is under construction in the area. At one time the village owned about 14 acres in the location. Palatine agreed Sept. 20 to sell about 7 acres to Bradford Real Real Estate for about $3.050 million. Bradford is trying to develop the 7 acres commercially, with Mariano's anchoring the redevelopment. Del Mar previously had opposed the village's sale to Bradford, arguing that the $3.050 million price for the land was too low. Monday, Del Mar once again voiced …

The Palatine Village Council Monday authorized the sale of 7 acres on Hicks Road for more than $3 million.
A Mariano's Fresh Market could locate south of the site for the new Palatine police station on Hicks Road. The Palatine Village Council at its Sept. 20 meeting authorized the sale of 7 of the 14 acres it owns near the intersection of Hicks and Baldwin Roads. Bradford Real Estate is buying the property for $3.050 million. "This is something that actually makes a lot of sense. The development is a good fit for the neighborhood," said Village Council member Brad Helms. The development would be in Palatine's 6th District, Helms' district. Helms said that before the city purchased the 14 acres, the area had become an eyesore. "Just the redevelopment alone has the neighborhood ecstatic," Helms said. "They've been [wanting] these improvements for…
