The “Click it or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign partnership between Palatine Police and IDOT netted dozens of tickets and five DUI arrests between November 12-25.
There were 98 tickets issued for various violations and five DUI arrests were made during the Thanksgiving Holiday Enforcement Campaign by Palatine Police. In partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), police enforced “Click it or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” between November 12-25. Similar campaigns are held around July 4, Labor Day and Christmas. A traffic safety grant awarded by IDOT enabled police to increase patrols during that time period to ensure residents driving on Palatine roads were kept safe during holiday celebrations. The Palatine Police Department made 15 arrests and issued nearly 96 tickets in about two and a half weeks. Part of the Labor Day Holiday Traffic Safety Crackdown Campaign, the Palatine Police Department increased patrols and saturated the streets to get drunken drivers off roadways and may sure all drivers and occupants use seat belts. Through a traffic saftey grant, IDOT supplied funds to boost the number of uniformed Palatine Police officers on the roadways enforcing traffic laws from August 17 through Sept. 3. The focus of the campaign was to get intoxicated motorists off the roads, reduce speeding and make sure vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts.
The Palatine Police Department issued 108 tickets and made six DUI arrests during stepped-up patrols for the St. Patrick's Day holiday weekend. The Palatine Village Council passed a resolution officially stating that the village is opposed to the state's plan to add a barrier median on Dundee Road between Rand Road and Route 53.
Palatine made its opposition to a raised, impassable, barrier median on Dundee Road official this week. The median has been proposed by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which has jurisdiction over Dundee Road. The median would be between Rand Road and Route 53. The Village Council passed a resolution stating Palatine's concerns that the median could hurt local businesses or even hamper emergency responses from the fire department. Palatine wouldn't admit fault because Palatine wouldn't have walked into the middle of a busy four-lane road trying to jaywalk. There are no residential areas opposite of Sonic and Wal-Mart on Dundee. You can just as easily walk to Baldwin and cross Dundee there. But its no more Palatine's responsibility if you decide to jaywalk Dundee than it is the state's if you decided to jaywalk across 53.   more ›
