Holiday Guide: Palatine Jaycees Annual Tree Sale

The 55th annual Christmas tree sale raises money to help civic groups and individuals around the area.

The Palatine Jaycees will start the season selling Christmas trees Friday, November 23 in the parking lot of the Palatine Park District Aquatic Center. The trees will be available for sale every Thursday through Sunday until December 16. Sale hours will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Aquatic Center parking lot is located on Palatine Road just west of Northwest Highway behind the Walgreens. Money raised by the tree sales will go towards helping civic groups and individuals in the Palatine area. The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees is one of the nearly 100 local Chapters and one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Palatine Chapter holds …

Holiday Guide: Tree Lighting Starts Holiday Season

Santa, snacks and so much more at the annual event to start off the Holidays in Palatine.

Downtown Palatine will be decked out in holiday cheer Saturday, November 17 for the annual tree lighting at Towne Square. Santa Claus and Mayor Schwantz will host the festivities which begin at 4:30 p.m. Holiday music will be provided by the Do Re Mi Choir, Treble Choir and Intermezzo Choir and Concert Honors Choirs. Throughout the evening, the Illinois Youth Dance Theatre will be showcasing characters from their annual Nutcracker show.  Refreshments will be served by Girlscout Troop 42264.  Santa Claus will arrive at Towne Square at 5 p.m. to light the holiday tree.  After the tree is illuminated, children will have an opportunity to speak and take a picture with Santa. Holiday Guide: Celebrating the 200th Birthday of Charles Dickens

The Palatine Historical Society pays tribute to the great novelist.

In 1812 one of the greastest novelists of all time was born. Charles Dickens wrote many great works including A Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, David Copperfield and A Christmas Carol. To celebrate his 200th birthday the Palatine Historical Society will host its annual Christmas Open House at the Clayson House Museum, 224 East Palatine Road, with a tribute to Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Several rooms will depict the different scenes of the famous story. Punch and cookies will be served.  The open house is set for Sunday, December 2 from 1-4 p.m. The Dickens' display will stay up through the New Year. Holiday Guide: Sounds of the Seasons

Choirs, bands, orchestras and musical groups will perform several concerts over the next two months.

Take some time out of the hustle and bustle these next few months to enjoy the sounds and shows of the holiday season. Several local organziations will host concerts and recitals to get Palatine residents in the spirit! The Palatine Concert Band will perform its holiday concert on Friday, December 7 at 7 p.m. at Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood Street.  The band is a volunteer adult organization for avocational and professional musicians, according to the group's website. The band began with 15 members in 1875 and was called the Palatine Military Band. In 1958 women were welcomed as band members for the first time.
