Palatine Beats Out Fremd 54-49 in MSL West Race

The Pirates come back to win over Fremd; Roosevelt Smart of Palatine scored 28 points and key players included Riley Glassmann and Sean Benka from Fremd and Chris Macahon from Palatine, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Palatine Pirates had a comeback win over the Fremd Vikings with a 54 to 49 victory in the Mid-Suburban League West play Friday, the Chicago Tribune reports. Roosevelt Smart of Palatine scored 28 points in the game, the Tribune reports, and the win causes the Pirates and Vikings to now be tied in the MSL West Race.

With Monaghan Out, Brown Delivers For Fremd

A 20-point game from Quinton Brown was not enough to beat undefeated Neuqua Valley.

Despite scoring 20 points in the second round of the Elgin Holiday Tournament, Quinton Brown was unable to help the Fremd Vikings steal a win from undefeated Neuqua Valley Tuesday night. Brown's 8-point fourth quarter kept the Vikings close against a Neuqua Valley team that was led by senior forward Jim Stocki, who finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds. With the Vikings down 9 points in the fourth quarter, Brown finished on a breakaway, immediately stole the inbounds pass, scored another easy lay-up and picked off the ensuing attempt to get the ball in bounds. "I was just trying to be aggressive," Brown said. "My team needed me to score, so I had to step up, get to the basket and try to get to the line." But a 53-50 score was as close as …

Monaghan's Shot Carries Fremd Over Libertyville

Fremd's boys basketball team wins its first game of the season at the Chuck Mitchell Thanksgiving Tournament.

Everyone in the joint knew who was going to take the last shot. Basketball fans who attended Wednesday night's game at Fenton High School between Fremd and Libertyville didn't see much defense. But it was entertaining nonetheless. After Libertyville took a 67-66 lead with 24 seconds to play, winless Fremd had one more chance to claim victory. And top scorer Zach Monaghan helped draw up the last play of the game. "They had confidence in me,'' Monaghan said. "I thought 'let me go back door.' " Speedy Quinton Brown brought the ball up. He found Monaghan and the senior let it fly. It hit nothing but net. Fremd beat Libertyville 68-67 in the third game of the 25th annual Chuck Mitchell Thanksgiving Tournament at Fenton High School.
