Fremd Finishes Strong in IHSA State Gymnastics Meet

The Fremd gymnastics team placed overall third in the Illinois High School Association State Gymnastics meet held at Palatine High School Friday and Saturday.

The Fremd High School gymnastics team took third place overall with a score of 146.050 at the IHSA State Gymnastics Meet held at Palatine High School.  First place was clinched by Lyons High School in LaGrange, who scored 149.625, and Prairie Ridge in Crystal Lake took second place with a score of 149.300. The competition, held Friday, February 15 and Saturday, February 16 at Palatine High School, included vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.  The overall individual winner of the state meet was Lauren Freely from Carmel High School in Mundelein.  For information on full results, visit the IHSA website. Fremd Tops 2012 Mari-Rae Sopper Invite

Shannon Lemajeur, Stephanie Uhrich, Christine Jensen and Sydney Plichta were top performers at the event.

Fremd High School gymnasts honored Mari-Rae Sopper, a Fremd gymnast who died on Sept. 11, 2001, with outstanding team and individual performances. Many Fremd gymansts from years past attended the meet honoring one of the great gymnasts of Fremd. Fremd topped the podium with a 147.60, followed by Lyons with a 142.325 and  third-place finishers, Naperville Central, with a 138.725. Lyons High School's Kelsy Kurfirst took first place all around with a 38.10.  Fremd junior Shannon Lemajeur took second place all around with a 37.20, followed by teammate Stephanie Uhrich with a 36.575.  Sophomore Christine Jensen topped the afternoon performances of Fremd team with a 9.35 earning her second place on beam and a 9.5 earning her third place on vault…
