Poll: Should Undocumented Immigrants Have A Chance For Citizenship?

Earlier this week a bipartisan group of Senators and President Obama each unveiled immigration reform plans. Each plan contains a path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented workers living in the U.S. Both plans are attached to this post. The Senate plan, whose supporters include Illinois Democrat Dick Durbin and Florida Republican Marco Rubio, states that reform should include tougher border security, while also providing an opportunity for citizenship to those already living in the U.S. The plan states that undocumented workers would be "required to go to the back of the line of prospective immigrants, pass an additional background check, pay taxes, learn English and civics, demonstrate a history of work in the United …

Attitudes about immigration policy priorities: Among U.S. adults, 28% say the priority for dealing with illegal immigration should be given to tighter restrictions on illegal immigration while 27% say creating a path to citizenship should be the priority. $357,000 Community Development Block Grant for Palatine

Palatine to receive nearly $357,000 in grant money from U.S. Department of House and Urban Development.

The Village of Palatine will receive nearly $357,000, a Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) to support efforts by non-profits and local government entities to provide support service, affordable housing and infrastructure projects in the Palatine area. The grant is allocated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the amount received is based on the percentage of the Village population that falls into low to moderate-income guidelines. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin announced the grant while visiting the Palatine Opportunity Center, which coordinates health, wellness, education and community services in the northeast Palatine Township area and will receive $25,000 for child care and support services under the grant.   …

Harper College’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Program Will Use Funding to Expand Statewide

Haper College awarded nearly $13 million to expand its new Advanced Manufacturing Training Program to community colleges statewide. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin announced Thursday, the Department of Labor awarded a total of $12,939,459 in funding through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training program to expand Harper’s Advanced Manufacturing Program to other community colleges throughout Illinois.
