Lawsuit Filed in Palatine NIU Student Hazing Death

The family of Palatine native David Bogenberger, who died after being involved in an alcohol-related incident at his NIU fraternity, is suing Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity, the local chapter and officers involved, the Daily Herald reports.

The family of David Bogenberger, a Palatine High School 2012 graduate, is suing the fraternity they believe are responsible for the young man's death in an alcohol-related hazing incident, the Daily Herald reports.  Just before Christmas 2012, 22 arrest warrants were issued for members of the fraternity involved the night that Bogenberger, 19, had a blood alcohol content of 0.351, close to five times the legal limit for driving while at the fraternity.  The complaint, according to the Daily Herald, named Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity, Inc., the local Kappa Alpha Eta Nu chapter at NIU, and officers of the fraternity involved in Bogenberger's initiation to the fraternity.  Though Bogenberger's family moved to Florida after his May…

Northfield Man Accused in David Bogenberger Hazing Death Surrenders

James P. Harvey, a Northern Illinois University student facing hazing charges after the death of a freshman during a fraternity event, is due to appear in court on Dec. 28.

A Northfield man facing hazing charges following the death of David Bogenberger, 19, at a Northern Illinois University fraternity house, has surrendered to Northfield Police.  Bogenberger was found dead in his NIU fraternity house on November 2.  James P. Harvey, 21, turned himself in on Dec. 19 on a $15,000 warrant out of DeKalb County for hazing not sanctioned by the institution and hazing with bodily harm, police said. Harvey was released after posting $1,500 cash bond, or 10 percent of the bond, and was issued a Dec. 28 court date in DeKalb County, police said.  Harvey, of 1717 Colonial Ln., Northfield, is vice president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at NIU. 22 Arrest Warrants Issued: David Bogenberger Death

The Palatine native was found dead in his Northern Illinois fraternity house on November 2, five of the arrest warrants issued are for class 4 felony hazing, NBC 5 Chicago reports.

On Monday, twenty-two arrest warrants were issued relating to the death of Palatine native, David Bogenberger, NBC 5 Chicago reports. Bogenberger was found dead in his Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb on November 2. His death has now been determined to be alcohol and hazing-related, according to NBC 5 Chicago, and five of the warrants issued are for Class 4 Felony Hazing.  Autopsy results showed Bogenberger, 19, had a blood alcohol content of 0.351, close to five times the legal limit for drivers, according to Northern Star, the NIU daily paper.  The death was ruled accidental, the Northern Star reports, and according to DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller, Bogenberger had an enlarged heart and the …

Celebration of Life for David Bogenberger, 19

A Celebration of Life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 6 to honor David Bogenberger. He was found unresponsive late last week at his fraternity house on the NIU campus.

David R. Bogenberger, 19, entered eternal rest on November 2, 2012.  David was the cherished son of Gary L. and Ruth A. Bogenberger of Osprey FL, formerly of Palatine IL.  David is survived by his older brother Matthew, triplet sister and brother Megan and Alex, and younger sister Amy.  David is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.  David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth and Mack Gajewski and Virginia and Roland Bogenberger David was majoring in Finance at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL.  He graduated from Palatine High School in June 2012.  David loved people and he will be missed by many friends from the Palatine and NIU communities.  David enjoyed films and playing baseball, basketball and …
