Grand Opening Set for Sweet New Business

Couture Cupcake Café and Gelato Bar held its grand opening April 13 in Kildeer.

Fancy a Jimmy Choo? Or how about a Betsey Johnson? Those aren't just designer brands. At Couture Cupcake Café and Gelato Bar in Kildeer, they're also gourmet cupcakes featuring organic and imported ingredients. The Jimmy Choo features Belgian chocolate chunk cake with chocolate icing, while the Betsey Johnson cupcake is a Black Forest cake stuffed with cherries and topped with chocolate icing. "We like fashion and our cupcakes are well-dressed," said Cathi Volante, owner of Couture Cupcake. Couture Cupcake is located at 20771 N. Rand Road in Kildeer, next to Smash Burger and Best Buy. Cookie Cards Celebrates First Anniversary in Downtown Palatine

Bakery became even more of a sweet spot in November when cupcake maker moved in.

Cookie Cards, a dessert bakery in downtown Palatine, marked its first anniversary Thursday, Jan. 13, with a ribbon cutting officiated by Mayor Jim Schwantz and attended by officials from the Palatine Chamber of Commerce. The celebration will continue Saturday, Jan. 15, with a party for customers that will include cookie and cupcake tastings. Located at 10 N. Bothwell St., Cookie Cards began as a mother-daughter partnership for Marti and Kerri Callahan. While freshly baked cookies with such flavors as oatmeal cherry and Creamsicle are sold in packs of six at the front counter, the business specializes in custom-made cookies that can be decorated with anything from a family crest to a corporate logo.
