Quentin Road Construction Continues

Crews are back to work on Quentin Road but construction is not moving very quick.

“It’s a real son of a gun,” said Palatine resident Peter Dones, “Just a pain for everyone who comes through here.” Dones, who lives on Quentin Road, said the construction on his street has turned into what seems to be a never-ending project. Dones said no one seems to have any sense of urgency to finish the work, crews come and go as they please and that’s if they even show up at all. “We didn’t see them for weeks, maybe a month and then they came back and now they’re gone, where are they right now?” Dones said outside of his home Tuesday. Like many people in Palatine, Dones’ patience has worn thin, “When are they going to be done?” Dones asked, “Does anybody even know?” “ASAP,” said John Yonan, Superintendent of the Cook County Highway …

This is the 21st century, yet the entire process is so dated that you run into this kind of baloney where the good old boys keep doing things the same old archaic way. You need competent visionaries running these things instead of the old machine cranks! Fred Thurston   more ›

Quentin Road Construction Hits a Roadblock

Argument over asphalt halts Cook County's construction on Quentin Road in Palatine.

A dispute between the main contractor and the subcontractor has brought construction on Quentin Road to a screeching halt. The disagreement over what kind of asphalt should be used to resurface Quentin Road caused the Cook County Highway Department to put the brakes on the construction project in Palatine that started this spring. No progress has been made in months but the orange and white blockades are still up, cutting a 2.1-mile stretch of Quentin Road down to one lane in each direction. The Cook County Highway Department still has about 11 weeks to complete the $3.8 million project. While construction was expected to last until Thanksgiving, there is currently no work being done which means drivers in and commuting through Palatine …

Resurfacing of Quentin Road to Last Until Thanksgiving

The road resurfacing will affect 2.1 miles of roadway.

Drivers can expect Quentin Road to be under construction from now until Thanksgiving. The Cook County Highway Department will resurface Quentin Road from Illinois Avenue up to West Northwest Highway, affecting 2.1 miles of roadway. The project involves removing the curb and gutter on both sides of the roadway and applying two layers of asphalt, which will raise the roadway by three inches. They are also adding a left-turn lane from both north- and southbound Quentin Road onto Wood Street, which will help ease the traffic, said Hassan Mohebbi, senior project engineer for the Cook County Highway Department. Although one lane in each direction will remain open for the duration of the $3.8 million project, drivers should avoid the area if …

Why did they stop working for the past 2 months? This project should take between one and two months. Why do they have the left turn arrow on so long for the east and westbound traffic on Palatine rd.? Every time I have been at the intersection, the turn arrow is green with no cars. This is completely mismanaged. Who is ever in charge should be fired and get someone who knows what there doing.   more ›
