Holiday Guide: Sounds of the Seasons

Choirs, bands, orchestras and musical groups will perform several concerts over the next two months.

Take some time out of the hustle and bustle these next few months to enjoy the sounds and shows of the holiday season. Several local organziations will host concerts and recitals to get Palatine residents in the spirit! The Palatine Concert Band will perform its holiday concert on Friday, December 7 at 7 p.m. at Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood Street.  The band is a volunteer adult organization for avocational and professional musicians, according to the group's website. The band began with 15 members in 1875 and was called the Palatine Military Band. In 1958 women were welcomed as band members for the first time. In 1935 the band dissolved for 20 years, before it was revitalized. Today the band is lead by Ronald H. Polancich. Tickets for the …

Share your memories of the concert you loved the most.

  Concert season is upon us. The Boss will rock Wrigley Field Sept. 7, REO Speedwagon with Styx and Ted Nugent are playing at Charter One Pavillion June 24, and Train performs at Ravinia Aug. 11. It got me thinking about my first concert. It was U2 in 1987, the Joshua Tree Tour. Who was your first concert? What was your favorite concert of all time? For me, it is a hard choice between Springsteen, U2, Jimmy Buffet and Billy Joel. Music is very personal and every genre has its fans and its haters. Because this is America, where everyone is entitled to their opinion, we want to hear yours. Are you a fan of Bon Jovi or Lynyrd Skynyrd, KISS or New Kids, Pink Floyd or Madonna? Good call. I was at LZ's first show at the Kinetic, right after their first record came out. Jethro Tull opened, Zeppelin was second, Vanilla Fudge topped the bill (and deservedly so). Two sets apiece for $5. Those were the days, eh?   more ›
