An indoor family game and activity center is planned to open in the old Brunswick Zone bowling alley at 519 S. Consumers Ave.
An indoor family game and activity center was approved for the old Brunswick Zone property at 519 S. Consumers Ave. The center, known as Happenings, was approved by the Village Council Monday. It will include batting cages, inflatables, an arcade, mini-bowling area, gaming area and party room. "We are recommending approval of this use. We think that it will be a good complement to the other uses along this stretch of Consumers," Village Manager Reid Ottesen said. However, Jodi Neff, operations manager for Orbit Skate Center said the new business would not be a good fit. "We are really stretching the entertainment dollar," Neff said, noting both facilities will have inflatables, an arcade and children's parties. "Another concern is parking…

The Palatine Village Council approved the move of the American Academy of Gymnastics to the old Brunswick Zone bowling alley building at 519 S. Consumers Avenue.
The American Academy of Gymnastics will be moving from Wheeling to the old Brunswick Zone bowling alley in Palatine. The American Academy of Gymnastics has been in Wheeling at 280 E. Church could address issues and return before the village council.
Cornerstone Evangelical Community Church Monday withdrew its plans to move into the former Brunswick Zone building at 519 S. Consumers Ave. when it became clear that the village council would not support the move over parking concerns. The Evangelical Cornerstone Community Church had proposed a 350-seat sanctuary, ten Sunday school classrooms, band and choir practice rooms and a number of offices at the former bowling alley. “I still have strong concerns for the parking in this area, the availability of parking, and the bottleneck on the one way in and out of the area,” said District 1 Council member Aaron Del Marr during Monday's council meeting. The property is located adjacent to the United States Post Office facility off of Northwest…

Cornerstone Evangelical Church plans to transform an old Brunswick Zone bowling alley into a place of worship.
Cornerstone Evangelical Community Church plans to transform a former Brunswick Zone bowling alley into a place of worship. Pastor Henry Keem said the building suits the church's needs well and the price was right. Plans call for the bowling alley lanes to be ripped up for the worship area. Other existing rooms will be used as church offices, classrooms, and for other programs. "It's not really a major change," Keem said, adding that the church plans to leave the exterior of the building largely unchanged. The building is located at 519 S. Consumers Ave. The property is directly east of the United States Postal Service building that is located on Northwest Highway. Other nearby businesses include Soccer City and the Orbit Skate Center. …
