Holiday Guide: Enjoy Art and Entertainment this Season

From a a production of 'Its a Wonderful Life' November 16-25 to a ballet recital, enjoy plenty of art and entertainment this season in Palatine.

TesserAct Theatre Ensemble presents It's a Wonderful Life, the Musical. In the heartwarming tale the dreams of George Bailey are put to the side by family obligations and civic duty. When things seem at their lowest, George's guardian angel descents on Christmas Eve to show him he does in fact have a wonderful life. Show times at Cutting Hall are November 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 18 and 25 at 3 p.m. Ticket prices range from $12 - $17 and are available in advance on this website, or at the door. Positive Strokes Moves to Downtown Palatine

Art school and gallery's owner excited by possibilities of new location

Positive Strokes Art School & Gallery has a new home at 125 W. Colfax St. in downtown Palatine, and its owner and chief instructor, Marlene Wood, could not be happier. “My dream was always to be in a house or in a barn or something more artsy,” Wood said. “There’s a lot of light here, a lot of space.” The new location is a house that was converted into office space years ago. Previously it was home to financial planning and real estate professionals. Wood spent a month taking out walls to add more space and change offices into classrooms and galleries. Palatine/Inverness Art Council To Host Art Show Preview Reception

The Palatine/Inverness Arts Council (PIAC) will present a public artist reception and show preview to their 7th annual juried art fair, “An Art Affair Around the Square,” on Sept. 9 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. hosted by The Music Room at 26 North Brock

The Palatine/Inverness Arts Council (PIAC) will present a public artist reception and show preview to their 7th annual juried art fair, “An Art Affair Around the Square,” on Sept. 9 from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. hosted by The Music Room at 26 N. Brockway Street in downtown Palatine. Highlighted pieces of the weekend’s art show will be on display, and entertainment will be provided by acoustic guitarist Merv Collins, a press release from organizers states. “This is our first year offering a reception,” said PIAC President Bill Pohlman. “We saw it as a natural extension of the art show and a great way to engage the public with the artists.” Attendance to the reception is free and open to the public. Art Grows In the Garden at Palatine's Knupper Nursery

Palatine nursery turns into art gallery for annual show.

Knupper Nursery in Palatine staged its fourth annual Art in the Garden Saturday. Forty artists from as far away as Iowa and as near as Palatine and Inverness showed prints, photography, ceramics, water colors and jewelry at booths scattered among flowers, bushes and hanging baskets. “We call it Art in the Garden because it is interspersed among the plants,” said Chris Sieff, marketing director at Knupper Nursery, 1801 N. Rand Rd. “It makes for a very pretty setting.” Despite the show’s name, work was not limited to flower or plant-themed subjects. “We  call it Art in the Garden but its not about the garden,” Sieff said. “It would be boring if everybody here did something with flowers on it.
