Law Firm Uses Social Media to Connect With Community, Clients

Drost, Gilbert, Andrew & Apicella LLC is a new law firm in Palatine.

There are plenty of law firms in the Chicago suburbs and Drost, Gilbert, Andrew & Apicella LLC is hoping to use social media to set the new Palatine firm apart, according to the Daily Herald. The firm has 700 "likes" so far on its Facebook page and is using social media to connect with the community and, it hopes, to draw clients, according to the Daily Herald. Panera Launches Hidden Menu, Offers More Healthy Options

The menu is only available to those who know about it.

Panera Bread restaurant lovers now have an entirely new menu to enjoy. But there's a twist: You won't see it advertised at any Panera locations.  That’s right, Panera has launched a new Hidden Menu, available only to those who know about it. The menu started in November of last year in New York City and has since expanded nationwide. According to Panera’s website the menu was developed by Scott Davis, Panera Bread’s Chief Concept Officer. “Panera’s off-the-menu dishes offer nourishing options that make sticking to New Year’s resolutions simple. Jobless Rate Increases in U.S.; Palatine's Unemployment Rate Also Rises

The unemployment rate is currently at 7.9 percent in the U.S. and has been relatively unchanged since September.

Unemployment rates in the United States increased slightly in January as economic growth remains slow. Employees added 157,000 jobs last month throughout the United States. The nation's current jobless rate of 7.9 percent—which is up .1 percent from December—has remained relatively unchanged since September, according to United States Labor Department numbers released Friday.  And while retail trade, construction, health care, and wholesale trade employees added jobs over the month, employment numbers for transportation and warehousing employees decreased, according to the Labor Department report.  There is currently 12.3 million U.S. residents who are unemployed and even with the addition of 181,000 new jobs in 2012, the economy has seen …

UPDATED: Suspected Serial Bank Robber Captured

The suspect in six bank robberies in the Chicago area, including one in Arlington Heights, has been captured, according to Bandit Tracker Chicago.

One of Chicago's most wanted, the man suspected in a slew of area bank robberies, Kenneth F. White II, 34, has been captured, according to Bandit Tracker Chicago. White, whose last known address was 754 West Bode Circle, #106, Hoffman Estates, was arrested without incident in Schaumburg on Thursday, FBI announced in a statement released Friday. According to the FBI, White was arrested without incident following the filing of a criminal complaint in U. S. District Court Nov. 15. White was charged with one count of Bank Robbery, a felony offense, in connection with the Nov. 9 robbery of a Harris Bank in Park Ridge. According to the complaint, White entered the Harris Bank branch in Park Ridge on Nov. 9, presented a note to a teller …

Nurse's Assistant Steals More Than $25K in Valuables

Arlington Heights nurse’s assistant is accused of stealing more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from patients.

Nurse's assistant, 42-year-old Krisann Henderson of Arlington Heights is accused of stealing more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from patients she cared for. According to the Cook County Sheriff’s office, authorities launched an investigation in January when a man reported several pieces of his wife’s jewelry missing. Several months after the initial report, his wife contacted law enforcement to provide several names of caregivers who had been assigned to care for her at the couple’s home. Authorities then got a tip that one of the caregivers had been a long-time customer of Arlington Jewelry and Loan at 901 W. Rand Road in Alrington Heights. Employees there told police Henderson had pawned several items at the shop after the reported theft…

Officials Deem Arlington Heights Explosion 'Accidental'

A 50-year-old man is dead and others suffer concussion injuries after a machine explosion.

Updated at 7:30 p.m. Earlier this morning, a machine exploded inside an Arlington Heights manufacturing company in the 3600 block of North Kennicott Avenue Tuesday morning, killing one person and injuring 10 others. At about 9 a.m. firefighters responded to a call of an explosion at Arens Controls, a company that manufactures and tests electrical parts. According to CBS Chicago, the explosion occured in the back of the building and early reports show it may have caused by a bad chemical reaction. “It looks strictly accidental,” Captain Ken Galinski said Tuesday afternoon. Officials are trying to figure out what exactly happen with the machine that exploded, Arlington Heights Fire Chief Glenn Ericksen explained. Of the 10 injured, two were …
