The American Legion family is seeking donations for their Support a Sailor dinner which is to be held on Thanksgiving, Thursday Nov. 24 when 46 sailors from Great Lakes Naval Station will come to the American Legion for a Thanksgiving dinner. “This year, we have elected to once again open the American Legion during the holidays to those that are actively serving our country,” stated Todd Pearson in press release, Commander American Legion Post 690. “With Great Lakes Naval Station being so close, we are bringing a bus load of sailors to the Legion and providing them with a day of thanks. Win in extra innings, lose in bottom of ninth.
Palatine's Legion baseball team went from great joy to bitter disappointment Monday at the Cook County tournament Monday in Arlington. The Blue Jays rallied earlier in the day to outlast Arlington 5-4 in 12 innings. After two days of rain and facing elimination, Palatine (21-7-1) trailed Arlington 4-0 in the top of the eighth. But the Blue Jays weren't ready to crash. Keith Giagnorio led off with a double and scored on Richard Concialdi's single. Erik …

Duo catchers hitting their stride for Legion team.
Palatine’s Legion baseball team figures two is better than one. While most baseball teams have one catcher who plays nearly all their innings, the Blue Jays have a platoon system with Clint Herdegen and Richard Concialdi that is the envy of every coach in the area. The duo have combined to hit nearly .500 while alternating games and batting in the number 9 spot in the batting order. They have also thrown out 75 percent of the runners attempting to steal against them while aiding Palatine pitchers to a solid 3.35 ERA. “It has been a great situation for us,” Palatine coach Jeff Ryder said. “They both hit. They both handle pitchers well and they both throw runners out. And I like having my catchers bat ninth. They see a lot of fastballs there…
