Patch Flash: Idol Contestant’s Injured Girlfriend Speaks Out Against Drunk Driving

Chicagoland news to talk about: Evanston Township High School students say gay slurs are part of casual conversation.

Two years after the accident that nearly killed her, Juliana Ramos delivers an impassioned message to her fans. Juliana Ramos, fiancée of former American Idol contestant Chris Medina,, was intoxicated at the time of her car accident Oct. 2, 2009. Her blood alcohol content was .16—twice the legal limit of .08. She has since expressed a desire to speak out against drinking and driving.   For some Evanston Township High School students, gay slurs are viewed as casual conversation, not to be taken seriously. Others think that language plays a much more important role in the acceptance of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning) students. "Faggot" is just a word, said one student. An insult you might casually toss at …

Harper College: All That Jazz

Fremd graduate gives voice to Harper's 40th Dinner and Jazz Concert.

For Fremd High School graduate Erin Blanchette, Wednesday night's Dinner and Jazz Concert at Harper College had an interesting twist. Not only did Blanchette provide the stellar, featured vocals for a crowd of about 300, she performed on the same stage that Haley Reinhart sang on last year before she started her run on American Idol. And even though the that fact was not lost on Blanchette, the Palatine resident said it added no pressure to her performance. "It's fun to come and sing where she was," Blanchette said before taking the stage. She said she has performed with Reinhart before, although Harper College jazz instructor Ken Spurr, whose ensemble also performed at the concert, said the two artists have much different voices. "Haley …

American Idol: Haley Reinhart Recording First Single

The family of the American Idol contestant, who made it to the final three, performed Saturday night in Wheeling and shared an update about her latest adventure.

Two days after Harper College student and Wheeling resident Haley Reinhart was eliminated from the American Idol competition, she was recording her first single, her parents said Saturday. Harry and Patti Reinhart were among the main stage entertainers at Relay for Life, an annual all-night event that raises money for the American Cancer Society. The two performed for about an hour at Wheeling High School, but first took the opportunity to thank their daughter’s supporters and deliver news of her latest activities. “Thank you all for the unbelievable support you gave Haley to make her number three. And she says 'thank you' to all of you at school. She wants to let you know that she’s happy. Number three is pretty darn good and you don’t …
