Janet- while I can empathize with what your friend is going through. I still can not believe thatRead More the thought even crossed her mind to sue for this. As someone else posted, if you break a leg skiing are going to sue the lodge? There are risks that everyone takes in all activities that we do when we walk out the door. If it sounds cruel I can't apologize, but this sounds like just another sue happy cituation that your friend is choosing to partake in. Whether waiting a year or not. I would think she of all people being a M.D. Would have a great understanding, she pays a huge premium in Liability Insurance just to practice medicine. Her premium is high because of frivolous lawsuits, hence if she wins her lawsuit (for an activity she chose) who will pay? The fans with higher ticket prices.

If we're going to get rid of Native American mascots (unless a nickname has the blessing of a tribe,Read More such as the Seminole Nation approving of the use of the name and logo by Florida State University), then what about nicknames that are disparaging. What comes to mind is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Besides the ND logo, there is the logo of a leprechaun in a classic boxing stance. Does the average person still think that a person of Irish heritage settles disputes with a fistfight? I like to think that stereotype has fallen by the wayside. Yet, Notre Dame still keeps that offensive stereotype alive.

The name Redskins should have been done away with long ago. Imagine if there were such a thing asRead More Whiteskins, Blackskins, Beigeskins, Brownskins or Yellowskins how long would that have lasted? This land was stolen from Native Americans, that's bad enough, add a racist term and make the teams colors the color of red skin and it's horrible. Native American images have been long used as mascots and turned into cartoon characters. There is no respect behind it. It is a slap in the face to Native Americans and a reminder of the lives and land that was raped and pillaged. Then to top it off, people will wear their likeness and call it paying homage. Pretty twisted.
Matt B. June 20, 2014 at 10:18 pm
Does anyone here personally know a Native American that is offended by this, or is everyone suckingRead More from the teat of the liberal media that tells you this is wrong and offensive? Do you still feel "white guilt" from something that happened hundreds of years ago that YOU had nothing to do with? Elizabeth Warren says this is wrong so it must be (if you don't know the story behind why I brought up her name or who she is please don't respond to this). Twisted to wear a likeness of a group of others, what is next, get rid of Halloween? But this is the Lakeview Patch where people don't offend and everyone lives on Happy lane and farts rainbows, right? Pick any heritage and they have at one time been offended. This is every weekend that this horrible team name is shown on TV so its wrong? Do the REDSKINS offend you in any way shape or form in day to day life? If so, you my want to think about what is wrong with your way of thinking.

Celtic soccer already offers soccer house leagues through ages 14. The cost is around $125 but theRead More season includes fall and spring and the cost also includes shirts, socks and trophy. In my opinion soccer is already an option and it doesn't have to be travel. Why spend money on something that is already offered?
Palatine Resident May 20, 2014 at 11:19 am
Congratulations to District 15. Getting kids into after school sports is important. They have anRead More activity to do and it's healthy. A lot of kids go home, turn on the TV or play TVGames. Many parents cannot take their kids to Celtic practices. After school inter scholastic soccer has bus service. The Park District offers basketball and so do the Jr Highs. It's time to offer soccer and give the kids more exercise, as well as, another positive purpose for school.

Parents ruin sports..
sportsnut July 14, 2014 at 06:39 am
Alan I agree. Parents coach to get their kids and kids friends a leg up. Kids are choosen too basedRead More on parents and kids being friends. Take AAU and All-Stars and positions in each sport. Parents coach because they want their kid in prime positions, kids are friends with certain kids or because a family does not like someone but the kid has talent not playing. You need "out of area" coaches to come and determine if a kid is "that good" to be at the next level not "locals" whom coach because that is the only way the kid will get playing time.
CowDung July 23, 2014 at 09:20 am
sportsnut: Seems like a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in coaching... If nothingRead More else, becoming a coach will give you a voice in the league to lobby for equal playing time for all kids, and rotation of positions--particularly at the lower levels.

I appreciate the accomplishments of the Blackhawks as well, but they are getting plenty of coverageRead More these days, too, so calm down. This was just one little extra story because of this odd thing called the "cross town classic/cup". They're ALL just games, sports and they each have big followings. Yeesh.

Gracie - CONGRATULATIONS! What a fabulous performance. Back in the mid-80's I had a skater (andRead More speed skating referee)that I would "patch-up" from his many strains/sprains on ice attempting to develop the "triples" and "doubles" you did. Those were rarely able to be done back then and now you executed multiples of them perfectly! He made it to the Olympics as a back-up. You are to be commended for the dedication, discipline, and commitment necessary to achieve a goal!!! Spending 1/4 of your life for the past 8-10 years resulted in the smile I saw on your face at the completion of your event! Yesterday I went to Huntley, IL to watch a friends granddaughter receive her second degree black belt in martial arts. She was invited to the WORLD martial arts event in Italy two months ago and was awarded two silvers and a gold for her accomplishments. Congratulations to you on such a fabulous and spectacular performance!
