As a former dancer and dance coach, it was extremely important for me to find a fun and challenging environment for my daughter. Prior to finding our home at the Edge Dance Academy, we tried 3 other studios in the area. All the studios provided classes for 3-5 year olds, but the classes and instructors at the Edge made a great impression from the start. Lisa, Kimmy and Lori are extremely talented (dancers/choreographers), genuine and extremely passionate about teaching the art of dance. This is evident in the clever ways they teach these kids, making for fun, engaging and challenging classes. The instructors foster a nurturing environment and truly take the time to get to know their kids. This studio is about skill, talent and most of all heart! The type of passion and dedication demonstrated by these instructors is exactly the type of behaviors I hope stays with my daughter. She truly enjoys her time at the Edge and always looks forward to her next class. The Edge also offers a variety of classes for all ages (including moms). I enjoy taking my adult ballet class on Saturdays while my daughter is in her tap class. We are very proud to be part of the Edge Dance Academy and the talented Jagged Edge Dance Company. I would absolutely recommend this studio to any parent!!! This is a great place to introduce kids to recreational or competitive dance. Thanks Lisa, Kimmy and Lori for all that you do! Start 'em young and keep 'em dancing! -carla m.

It would appear as though we have several people who spend an inordinate amount of time whining about the studio, one of which has clearly stated that she has never even attended the academy. What kind of credibility can you possibly offer when you have never taken a class with Lisa, Kimmy, or Lori? Unlike you, I have the ability to write a knowledgeable review having had them as teachers for myself and my child. The largest problem a dance academy has is when the parents of the dancers don't see the mistakes they make, because their child is perfect. As a parent of a past dancer, I knew when it was time for her to be pulled from the competition team when she wasn't able to compete with the other kids at her age; it wasn't fair to cause the scores to be lower because of her. When the child isn't putting forth the effort, it certainly isn't the studio's, the director's, or the teachers' fault, so stop pointing fingers. All parents dancing in competition or recital are required to know the rules up front before making a decision to let the child dance. Why would you punish the child by ruining their self-esteem when they don’t perform well? This studio has one of the best dance recitals & dance companies in the area; they consistently perform at the top level because their dancers work hard and the teachers love them. The studio & teachers are amazing, so when you read the useless reviews below, please take what I've said to heart & theirs with a grain of salt.

What I appreciate about The Edge Dance Academy, is that there is something for everyone. There is a broad continuum, from just having fun, to developing and even perfecting a skill that could have future vocational implications. Regular Dance classes at The Edge work with all abilities and ambitions. The student gets to decide how much he/she will take from the class and has a chance to perform at the spring recital.. The Edge also has an accomplished dance company, Jagged Edge. This is a competition team and a heightened degree of commitment, ambition and ability is required. Nobody is forced to be on the competition team, or even urged. They are invited, and choose for themselves, whether they will audition. There IS a place for pure fun, and that is in the regular classes. Training in any skill, at a higher level, is never all fun. To me, it's like happiness versus joy. Happiness is like a puppy, jumping around, enjoying being alive. And that's great. Joy is a deep satisfaction, often found from engaging in something at a more challenging and costly level, and lasting a lot longer. I have never seen any cohersion to be a part of the competition team, only invitation. I hope your daughter enjoys dancing, either in a happy or joyful way, wherever you end up. :)

To counter Sue Anderson, I agree that the most important thing about dancing is having fun, especially when we talk about young children. Unfortunately many dance academies, only think about competitions. For this reason my daughter is not enrolled in this academy because since the first moment, the director told me about the competitions and I think this is not the most important. I´m also an athlete and I learned over the years that kids needs above all to have fun while training.

To counter Abigail's comment, I have had nothing but the most positive experience with The Edge Dance Academy. My daughter took a basic jazz class last year and really blossomed under the skilled and caring direction of the teachers. She was invited to audition for the competition company, with no pressure of any kind, and when she made it, it was very clearly stated, that if she was not able to keep up, or learn the dances with enough proficiency, she may be "pulled" from a competition dance. I am an athlete, so I fully understand, that there are times when the "coach" leaves a player "on the bench" because she is not quite ready for the competition. There are costs involved with learning/development, and I see these costs as an investment in the future opportunities for my dancer. It is unfortunate that costumes were purchased, but I can assure you, that the owners care about the dancers and are definitely not in it for the money. They give of themselves and charge what is very reasonable and fair, given their time, energy and personal investment. I secretly rolled my eyes, when my daughter wanted to get more involved with dance, but I see the many benefits in her preparation and development, even if she never got on a competition stage. I would recommend this studio to anyone interested in getting better and having fun.

terrible management; the instructors and owner have very little involvement of what is going on. They insist in having your child to join their competition teams and have you spend additional fees and custom clothing. Once the dates are close they just simply tell you that your child is not participating on the team without considering the kids feelings and the expenses the parents incur during the preparation time. I questioned their professionalism since they should be looking for the development of the kids instead of just for the money.

My girls have been dancing with the pendzimaz family for the past 7 years. They have learned so much to the art of dance as well as discipline, committment, responsibility and accountability. My girls 7 & 10 have become beautiful dancers over the years! They are more like family than your average dance teachers. They go above and beyond the call of duty.
