Icy, Slick Roads Reported in Cook, Lake and McHenry Counties

Black ice has also been reported on some roadways, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Chicago is warning motorists about the possibility of slick roads—including black ice—in Lake and McHenry Counties this afternoon.

In a special weather statement, National Weather Service officials said that cold temperatures have allowed for minor snow accumulations and black ice on roadways.

"Motorists are advised to use extra caution out on the roadways early this afternoon as road conditions have been reported to be icy and slick in parts of the area," according to the special weather statement.

Visibility could also be reduced to a half-mile or less at times due to the snow combined with winds of 25 to 30 miles per hour.
