Winter Hopes for Spring in a New Home

Spunky 7-year-old feline seeks love on her own terms.

Meow! I’m Winter, a beautiful female feline who has been waiting for a home of her own for far too long. I’m Young At Heart Pet Rescue’s sweet little long-termer, making my home at the group’s Cat Center at Best Friends Pet Care in Prairie View for almost four years now.

Four years! Really! Can you believe that?!

I’m a cat person’s cat. I’m independent, funny, and very entertaining. I’ll love you with all my heart, but on my terms.

I don’t show well on first meeting. See, my life before I came to Young at Heart was pretty rough. I was treated very badly by some very mean people, and although I’m safe and sound now, I’m still really defensive when new humans come to meet me.

But if you visit me a few times, you’ll see that I’m a kitty who really does enjoy being around people. After I get to know you a little and realize you’re not going to hurt me, I’ll come right up to you with a purr and a snuggle. But you’ve got to let me come to you.

After all I’ve been through in my previous life, it takes time for me to develop enough trust to approach you. That probably won’t happen during your first visit, and trying to rush me along scares me so much that I nip.

Once I know we’re friends, I’ll show my affection in a number of different ways, each one as cute as the next. I purr loudly and contentedly when I’m feeling snuggly, and I’ll give you head rubs. I also like to give gentle back massages with my front paws, or I might just roll around on the floor showing off my wiggle-butt.

But whatever you do, please don’t pick me up. Developing that sort of trust takes a lot more time on my end.

No offense to people who like to dress their cats up in silly hats and Easter bonnets, but I’m just not that kind of girl. However, I’d very much like to sit in your kitchen window, watching the birds fly by while you drink your morning coffee. Make that mouse on a string dance for me, and I’ll be your best friend forever.

Have another cat at home? That’s cool with me. I enjoy the company of my Young At Heart kitty bunkmates, and when it comes to sharing humans, I’m really quite undemanding.

If you’re looking for a rewarding relationship with a cat who really deserves a break, arrange a time to come visit me. Then come back in a few days and visit me again. Feed me treats and play with me and help me understand that there are more good people than bad in this world.

Once I’ve won your heart, fill out an adoption application to take me home.

Although I require more patience and understanding than most cats, I promise I’m worth the effort.

Like all Young At Heart pets, I’m spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all my vaccinations. Cats are “two-for-one” for approved applicants. That means that for my $55 adoption fee, you can adopt me with or without one of my feline friends.
