Murder Mystery Raises Thousands For Senior Center

The Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council held a fundraiser recently to benefit the senior center.

A 1920s speakeasy-themed fundraiser to benefit the Palatine Township Senior Center brought in about $57,000.

The event was held by the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council. Julie Selof, one of the event organizers, said that about 170 people attended.

"It went very well. It was a lot of fun," Selof said.

The event included a jail from which people could "buy" their freedom with a donation. One of the highlights of the night was a murder mystery skit that featured Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz and Inverness police chief Bob Haas. The skit was written by Judith Vornbrock.

Ron Bernardi of Sunset Foods acted as an auctioneer during the evening.

The money raised from the night will go to benefit programs at the Senior Center. Among the services the center offers are health and wellness programs, meals on wheels, social services and an adult day care for up to four hours a day for people with mild to moderate memory loss.
