Sundling’s Jazz Band Earns Superior Rating at Northshore Festival

Walter R. Sundling Junior High’s jazz band earned a superior rating and an overall ranking of third place at the 36th Annual Northshore Jazz Festival.

On Saturday, January 19, Walter R. Sundling Junior High’s jazz band participated in the 36th Annual Northshore Jazz Festival at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview.

Under the direction of Jeff Zilke and John Tomassone, the WRS Jazz Band was awarded a superior rating and received an overall ranking of third place out of the 16 participating bands.

Also, Janet Kim, an eighth-grade alto saxophone player, was awarded an outstanding soloist award at the festival.

Congrats Jeff Zilke, John Tomassone and the rest of the band. My kids were under the direction of Mr. Zilke and one now uses music therapy for her hospice clients. This is why music and the arts need to remain in schools. Again, Congrats.
