Nine D-15 Schools Earn State PBIS Recognition

Nine District 15 schools were recently recognized by the Illinois Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Network for their efforts in implementing PBIS in their schools.

The schools applied for recognition at various levels of implementation, and the Illinois PBIS Network judged each of their applications as worthy of the recognitions for which they applied.

“The recognition from the Illinois PBIS Network is affirmation that these schools are implementing PBIS with fidelity and have demonstrated positive outcomes for the students and families that they serve as a result of their hard work,” said Kathy Pluymert, Ph.D., District 15’s RTI/PBIS coordinator.

Thousands of schools are members of the Illinois PBIS Network, but only 581 successfully applied for recognition this year.

Walter R. Sundling Junior High and Jane Addams, Hunting Ridge, Stuart R. Paddock, and Thomas Jefferson Schools were five of the 262 schools recognized at the “Emerging” level. This means they have implemented with integrity all of their recommended universal interventions.

Carl Sandburg Junior High and Gray M. Sanborn, Lincoln, and Virginia Lake Schools were four of the 158 schools recognized at the “Implementing” level. This means they have their universal interventions firmly in place, and have moved on to implement at least one secondary intervention with integrity.

“This recognition process is voluntary and involves a good deal of work on the part of the school team to collect data and document their efforts,” said Dr. Pluymert. “Given that PBIS implementation is done as a labor of love by the coaches and team members in our schools, it’s a particularly noteworthy thing that their work is acknowledged as excellent by an outside agency.”
