What not to Click

If you surf the internet then you have surely come across the never ending pop ups that seem to be everywhere. I often get asked, "Should I have clicked on that?". I know it can be misleading.

The most popular one I have seen lately is a popup that says something to the effect of "Your flash player is out of date click to update now." This sounds like a demand to me and I never took well to being told what to do. Flash player is made by Adobe, a very trusted software company. If your flash player needs to be updated you will get a system message from Adobe, not a full page website warning. If in doubt about your software go to the manufacturers website and see if there are updates available.

The fact is this is how scammers work to get you to download their software (along with adware and spyware). It is very lucrative for them to do this and takes a long time in the courts for major companies like Adobe to get theses things removed from the internet.

If you come across these type of "You need this Update" warnings you need to be careful as I call this scareware it scares you into thinking you need it but the scary part is what you just downloaded.

There is one simple rule to follow, if you are unsure then do not click it.
