Palatine's BJ Boldog Named MIVA Co-Offensive Player Of The Week

Boldog is a sophomore at Lewis University.

Sophomore setter BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) was named the Co-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week on April 17 thanks to helping No. 8 Lewis to a pair of sweeps over Grand Canyon last week. With the two wins, the Flyers collected a share of the MIVA regular season title and earned the No. 2 seed in the MIVA Tournament.

Boldog ran a Lewis offense which hit at a .392 clip for the two matches.  In the contests, Boldog averaged 13.17 assists per set, above his season average of 10.75. He also averaged 1.00 blocks and 1.00 digs per set.

In the series opener versus the Antelopes, Boldog guided the Lewis offense to a .364 team hitting percentage by handing out 38 assists over three sets. He also tallied six block assists and a pair of digs in the victory.

In the Saturday rematch, Boldog set the Lewis offense to a .415 rate of success. He recorded 41 assists. He also tallied a kill on his lone attack attempt while adding four digs. Boldog enters the MIVA Tournament ranked second in the MIVA.

In league matches, Boldog ranks first in the MIVA with an 11.36 average. He has also guided the Flyers offense to a league-best .318 attacking mark this season, including a .334 rate of success in MIVA-only action.

“BJ has done a great job of running an efficient offense all season long and I couldn’t think of a better guy to be recognized during the final week of the regular season,” Lewis head coach Dan Friend said. “The team focused all week on our goal of getting two wins to win the regular season title.”

The honor is Boldog’s first of his career. The Flyers have earned eight MIVA Player of the Week Awards this seaon.
