Palatine Coach Recognized by Blackhawks

Palatine resident Mark Zehelein won the Coach of the Month award.

Palatine resident Mark Zehelein – head coach of the Rolling Meadows Renegades – was recently named BMO Harris Bank Coach of the Month.

As part of BMO Harris Bank's sponsorship of the Chicago Blackhawks, a youth hockey player, coach, and volunteer are recognized each month of the regular season for their above and beyond accomplishments on and off the ice, in the classroom and in their community.

Justine Fedak, Senior Vice President, Brand, Advertising and Sponsorships, BMO Harris Bank, presented the awards to Zehelein and two other award winners during the on-ice ceremony at the October 29 Blackhawks game.

BMO Harris Bank and the Chicago Blackhawks are recognizing one volunteer of the month, awarded for their efforts in giving back to their community. All candidates are nominated by teammates, coaches, friends or family members through the Blackhawks' website and are judged by an amateur hockey committee.

Coach of the month Mark Zehelein currently works with the Rolling Meadows “Renegades.” The Palatine resident spends five-to-six nights a week at the rink assisting with the Hockey Tots and Pre-Mites, in addition to coaching his own Squirt Team. This spring, Zehelein team went 8-0 at the North Shore League against some of the strongest teams in the league. He enjoys coaching because he can “help kids learn the game of hockey in a friendly, fun and positive way.”
