Metra: Bears Bag Restrictions in Place

The restrictions will begin today at the Bears pre-season game against the Chargers.

The below information comes from a Metra press release. 

Metra riders planning to use our service to attend games at Soldier Field this season need to be aware of a new NFL policy that sets strict limits on the size and types of bags that can be carried into Soldier Field.

The new policy will be implemented for the first time in Chicago on Thursday, Aug. 15 for the Bear’s pre-season game against the San Diego Chargers.

Metra riders planning to attend the game need to be aware of these restrictions and that there are no storage areas available near the stadium should fans need to stow restricted items while attending the game. The only Metra station in the downtown area where storage lockers can be rented is Chicago Union Station. These lockers are located in the Amtrak baggage area.

Fans will be allowed to carry only items that fall within the following guidelines:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.” 
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
  •  Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.
  • An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, non-clear cinch bags, luggage of any kind, seat cushions with zippered covers, pockets or flaps, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.  There will be no exceptions.
