Immanuel Lutheran Boys Take Second at State Track Meet

A boys relay team set a new state record and the girls' team took 6th place.

The boys’ track and field team from Immanuel Lutheran School, in Palatine, captured the runner-up title at the 23rd Annual Lutheran Sports Association (LSA) Illinois State Track & Field Championships at Concordia University in River Forest, on May 12-13.  The Bobcats also set a new state record in the 4 x 800m relay with a time of 9:36.32.  The record-setting relay team included seventh-graders Nate Izewski, Britt Sease, Dylan Tapia and eighth-grader Matt Ulrich.

In addition to the 4 x 88m relay team, the boys placed another 11 athletes on the awards podium in seven other events: 800m-Nate Rathe (2nd), Nate Izewski (4th) and Britt Sease (8th); 1600m-Natt Ulrich (2nd); Nate Izewski (3rd) and Britt Sease (7th); 110m Hurdles-Nate Rathe (4th); Triple Jump-Nate Rathe (6th); Shot Put-Mark Pollard (7th); and High Jump-Jonah Kaufmann (6th).

Competing with 34 teams from across the state of Illinois, the boys’ team finished with a team score of 57 points.

The Lady Bobcats finished in 6th place in a field of 33 girls’ teams.  Setting the pace for the Lady Bobcats were: Anna LaValle (2nd in the 800m run); Tiana Henderson (4th in the 200m dash); and the 4 x 800m relay team of Brenna Fathers, Claire Fathers, Anna LaValle and fourth-grader Jane Smith (2nd).

The Lady Bobcats finished with a team score of 31 points.
