Fremd Vikings Football Host Lake Zurich Bears Friday, August 30

Fremd Vikings open the football season against the Lake Zurich Bears this Friday.

Fremd High School's Hildebrandt Field will set the stage for the football season opener as the Vikings host the Lake Zurich Bears.

"We are going to define who we are by what we do when we finally come together as a team," said Lou Sponsel, Fremd football head coach in an article on the Fremd website.

"We are unranked by the experts and are not picked to win the Mid Suburban West so that has ignited the will to succeed for this team," he said.

Last season, the Vikings were 5-5, and began a new playoff run.

The Mid Suburban League record is owned by the Vikings for 16 consecutive playoff appearances, which began when Coach Sponsel was a senior at Fremd in 1995 and lasted through the 2010 season.

The sophomore team begins play at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 30 and the varsity team is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
