Fremd High School's Gymnastics Coach Retiring

Jim Guest announced that he is retiring as Fremd High School gymnastics. He led the Fremd gymnastics team to three state titles.

Fremd High School girls gymnastics coach Jim Guest has announced that he is retiring from coaching.

Guest has coached for 34 years and led the Fremd girls program for the last seven years. As head coach of Fremd girls gymnastics, the program won three state titles.

"During the past decade I have had the privilege to coach both boys and girls gymnastics. I have been blessed with very talented gymnasts, which has created much success for Fremd High School. It has been an honor to coach all of these fine athletes," Guest stated in a press release.

The Vikings' girls gymnastics program finished in the state's top six teams in seven of his years as head coach. The team won state in 2005, 2007 and 2008 and finished second in 2006.

Under his direction the team won the Mid-Suburban League conference championship from 2008 to 2010 and shared the title in 2005 and 2006. The team won six regional championships from 2005 to 2010 and four sectional titles in 2006 and from 2008 to 2010.

He had 25 state-qualifying gymnasts. Nine of those gymnasts became state medalists with two becoming state champions.

Guest was named the IHSA girls gymnastics coach of the year in 2006. He was the assistant girls coach from 2002 to 2004 and coached the Vikings boys team for sex years. The boys team qualified for the state meet in 2007.

Guest will remain at Fremd as driver education department chair.
