Tentative Agreement: District 15 and Transportation Union

After months of back and forth, an agreement that now must be approved by both the DTU and D15 has been reached.

After several months of debate, emotion-filled testimonies and negotiations between the District 15 Transportation Union (DTU) and District 15, an agreement - though tentative - has been reached.

"Did everyone get what they want, no, but our fingers are crossed we can move forward," Peggy Babcock, District 15 school board president said.

According to Babcock, the DTU is set to vote on ratification of the contract at a meeting tonight.

Predicated on if they approve, the school board plans to vote on the contract as well at a special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 26.

If the contract is approved, both by the DTU and the D15 school board, the board also will be required to rescind the Reduction in Force (RIF) notices.

The notices were sent out when both sides were still at odds and in the midst of what could be deemed as stalled negotiations.

Babcock said the school board also will set a process and a timeline for Superintendent Scott Thompson's review at the Wednesday meeting.

In 2012, his contract was extended to a five-year agreement, Babcock said.

The special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26 at the Joseph M. Kiszka Educational Service Center, 508 N. First Bank Drive in Palatine
