St. Luke's Bottle Band Helps Raise Funds for Local High School

The group which has performed on David Letterman and America's Got Talent will be lending their talents to help raise money for recording and production fees for the Palatine High School music department.

Expect a fun-filled evening on Saturday as an unconventional musical group helps the Palatine High School music department raise funds to cover production and recording fees.

St. Luke’s Bottle Band takes their name from the Lutheran Church in Park Ridge, and holds fundraising concerts all over the Chicagoland area. They previously have performed on David Letterman and America’s Got Talent.

“The group is made up of people from all walks of life, all ages, and they make music by blowing into, plucking, and striking bottles to create a complete orchestra,” said Steve Sivak, PHS choir director.

Sivak said the group incorporates vocalists, violin, oboe and percussion into their orchestra, and the that the concert is full of "side-splitting surprises".

Sivak, along with Orchestra Director Dung (Yoom) Pham and a string section of students and friends will be playing highlights from Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto in Bb minor.

“Also included in the concert will be the Jazz Band, under the direction of Raeleen Horn, and vocal ensembles Midnight Blues, The Guys! and Treble in Paradise playing, singing music that spans classical to pop standards,” Sivak said.

Sivak added that anyone who has attended a St. Luke’s Bottle Band concert has left with their face hurting from laughter, and has been amazed at the musicianship of the orchestra itself.

The event is open to the public and will be presented for one night only on Saturday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Altergott Auditorium at Palatine High School, 1111 N. Rohlwing Road.

Tickets are available at the door, and will be on sale for $12 (adults) and $7 (students).
