Quest Academy adds 3.68-acre outdoor West Campus, the Daily Herald reports.

More than doubling the school’s size, Quest Academy officially opened its new 3.68-acre outdoor West Campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday morning, the Daily Herald reports.

An independent school for gifted children, Quest Academy serves about 300 students from preschool to eighth grade. The addition of the school’s West Campus at 530 N. Plum Grove Road, allows students to escape the traditional classroom and actively learn outdoors.

According to the Daily Herald, the West Campus includes an amphitheater, an athletic field, a court for basketball and racquet sports, an open-area shelter, and outdoor classrooms.

Thursday's ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the completion of a project the school started about about a year ago. In October 2011  at 530 North Plum Grove Road, to develop the West Campus for outdoor learning, athletics, physical education and recreation.

June 2011 Quest Academy broke ground on the West Campus construction and launched a $1.5 million capital fundraising campaign to help finance the development of its new West Campus.
