Suspended D15 Bus Driver Below Alcohol Legal Limit

District 15 chose to handle a situation where alcohol was found in a bus driver's system in-house, as the procedure for these types of issues evolve, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Though a new state law required District 15 officials to report a school bus driver with a .018 blood alcohol level while on her bus route on Feb. 15 to the Secretary of State's office, the school district chose to handle the incident in-house, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The 35-year-old woman — who is not being named because she has not been charged criminally — had her school bus permit suspended for three years and resigned on the spot, according to the article.

Before the new law was enacted last year, school bus drivers with a blood alcohol level less than .04 were not required to be reported to the state, according to the article.

The Chicago Tribune has more on the zero tolerance policy for school bus drivers and examines whether police should be called in DUI incidents involving bus drivers.
