New Principal Named for Palatine's Fremd High School

The District 211 Board of Education has approved Kurt Tenopir as Fremd High School's new principal, beginning July 1.

The District 211 School Board has approved the appointment of Kurt Tenopir as the new principal for Fremd High School in Palatine, effective July 1. Tenopir, who currently serves as an assistant principal, assumes the principalship from Lisa Small, who was recently named District 211 Associate Superintendent for Instruction.

Tenopir began his tenure in District 211 as a 12-month assistant principal at Fremd High School in 2011. Before coming to District 211, Tenopir gained administrative experience as an assistant principal for instruction at Deerfield High School from 2008 to 2011, and was an assistant principal at Belvidere High School from 2005 to 2008.

Tenopir began his teaching career as an English teacher at Grand Island High School in Grand Island, Neb., in 1998. He received a bachelor’s degree in English education from Nebraska Wesleyan University a master’s degree in educational administration with a Type 75 certificate from Northern Illinois University. Tenopir also received a superintendent’s endorsement on his Type 75 certificate from Northern Illinois University.

Tenopir is currently working on his doctoral dissertation.

Having led initiatives at Fremd High School for the past several years, he is familiar with the school community, and in his new role he’ll have the opportunity to expand his instructional strengths and insights," said Superintendent-elect Dan Cates.

"He knows and relates well with students, parents, and staff. People throughout the Fremd community appreciate Kurt's positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and enthusiasm for the students of Fremd High School," said Cates.
