Immanuel Lutheran School: 2nd Annual Shoot for Scholarships

Do you got game?  Can you sink free throws with ease?  If so, Immanuel Lutheran School in Palatine needs your help to raise money for student tuition scholarships.  

Each free throw you make earns scholarship money for Immanuel Lutheran School through a donation from Thrivent Financial.  Each year, Immanuel Lutheran School provides student scholarships for families needing tuition assistance.  

Shoot for Scholarships takes place on Tuesday, June 25th, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran School in downtown Palatine.

Last year, more than100 people participated in Shoot for Scholarships and raised nearly $700 for scholarships.  Plus they had fun doing it.  Since last year’s event was very successful, John Messerschmidt, financial associate for Thrivent Financial, asked if it were possible to hold the event for a second time.  Reverend Warren Schilf, associate pastor at Immanuel, immediately accepted, and Messerschmidt had another surprise – the goal this year is to raise $1,000, which is double last year’s goal.

“The last two summers, my wife and I enrolled our three children in Immanuel’s basketball camps,” said John Messerschmidt. “We were so impressed by the quality of the instruction and the overall philosophy of developing young men and women; we wanted to find a way to support the school.”

“In addition to sponsoring Shoot For Scholarships last year, Thrivent Financial and its members have supported Immanuel Lutheran Church and School’s ministry for many years,” said Pastor Warren.  “Shoot For Scholarships is a fun event that blends our commitment to providing academic excellence in a Christ-centered setting with our love of basketball.  I’m looking forward to it.”

Shoot for Scholarships

Participants will be given 10 free throw attempts and successful free throws will be recorded.  Thrivent Financial will then donate money to Immanuel Lutheran for each free throw.

Immanuel Lutheran School is located at 200 North Plum Grove Road in downtown Palatine, just two blocks east of the Palatine Metra Train Station.

Shoot for Scholarships is free and open to the public.
