Holiday Guide: Sounds of the Seasons

Choirs, bands, orchestras and musical groups will perform several concerts over the next two months.

Take some time out of the hustle and bustle these next few months to enjoy the sounds and shows of the holiday season. Several local organziations will host concerts and recitals to get Palatine residents in the spirit!

The Palatine Concert Band will perform its holiday concert on Friday, December 7 at 7 p.m. at Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood Street. 

The band is a volunteer adult organization for avocational and professional musicians, according to the group's website.

The band began with 15 members in 1875 and was called the Palatine Military Band. In 1958 women were welcomed as band members for the first time. In 1935 the band dissolved for 20 years, before it was revitalized. Today the band is lead by Ronald H. Polancich.

Tickets for the Holiday Concert can be purchased online thru this website and are $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors.

The Palatine Park District choirs will have several performances. All will be held at Cutting Hall. Tickets are available for sale through the Cutting Hall box office. The concerts include:

  • The Allegro Concert on December 2 at 6:30 p.m.
  • The Do Re Mi and Trebel Choirs will perform Carols by Candlelight December 5 at 7 p.m.
  • The Trebel Intermezo and Concert Honors will perform Carols by Candlelight December 8 at 3 p.m.

The Illinois Brass Band will perform A Christmas Fantasy. Thirty of the area's finest brass players will offer a mix of traditional carols, holiday classics, and jazzy updates of Christmas favorites.

The Illinois Brass Band is in its 21st year and is supported in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. 

A Christmas Fantasy will be Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. at Cutting Hall. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students and children 18 and under.

The Palatine High School Midnight Blues Chorus, a jazz choir made up of students, will perform at the New Traditions A Cappella Group's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview Dec. 8. 

Tickets for the show at 8 p.m. range from $16 - $20 and can be purchased on the group's website.  

Palatine High School will host its Choral Holiday Concert Dec. 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and the Band Holiday Concert Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Fremd High School will host the Orchestra Concert December 11, the Choir Concert Dec. 13 and the Band Concert on Dec. 18. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium, 1000 South Quentin Road. 

Bands, orchestras, choirs and classes from the Community Consolidated School District 15 schools will perform various holiday concerts beginning November 28 through December 21. For details on a specific performance, log on to the school district's website calendar.
