Fremd Student Receives $1,000 Scholarship

Fremd High School student Michael Lory has received a $1,000 scholarship from Burger King.

Lory was one of 80 Illinois students to receive the scholarships, which will go toward first semester college costs.

Nationwide and in Canada Burger King awarded $1.4 million in scholarships to 1,249 students through the program. Five students won $5,000 regional scholarships and four major awards were given – three $50,000 awards and one $25,000 award which was one by a student in Illinois.

“In today’s economy, it’s too easy for dreams to be deferred. The Burger King Scholars Program helps to ensure that committed and accomplished students can achieve their dreams," said Ivette Diaz, executive director of the Have It Your Way Foundation.

Since 2000, about $15.4 million in awards have been given in 15,070 scholarships.
