The Fremd High School Marching Band, mascot, cheerleaders, and other students tipped-off its annual “Read & Connect” program at Marion Jordan Elementary School on Jan. 20, with a parade through the school’s hallways.

The program, now in its 11th year, is a joint-venture between Fremd and area elementary schools within the Fremd High School attendance boundaries, including Marion Jordan and Hunting Ridge Elementary Schools.

Elementary school children set personal reading goals, and then high school students visit the school several times throughout the four-week program to read with the children and make sure they are meeting their goals.

The program culminates with each child who achieves their goal receiving a pass for their family to attend the Vikings varsity boys basketball game against Barrington High School on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, where all students will be honored during a special halftime recognition.
